India: Cop arrested for raping 16-year-old girl in UP village

Aligarh (UP), May 8 (PTI) A policeman was suspended on Sunday for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl related to him in a village here, officials said.

The action against the constable, who was posted in Bulandshahr district, came after a report from the Aligarh senior superintendent of police about the incident that took place on Friday.

According to the police, the girl is from Kasgunj district, and she was visiting a relative in the village near Atrauli.

India: Relative rapes woman in UP's Ballia

Ballia (UP), May 9 (PTI) A 23-year-old married woman was allegedly raped by her relative in the Rasra area of the district, police said on Monday.

An FIR was registered and the accused has been arrested, they said.

According to police, the incident took place on Sunday when the woman (23) was alone in her house and her relative Ashwani Ram (21) reached there and raped her.

A detailed probe is on in the matter, they said.

India: J-K cops to be armed with corner shot weapon system

Udhampur, May 9 (PTI) The highly sophisticated 'Zen ShootEdge' corner shot pistol weapon system will be inducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Police for close combat and 100 of these will be delivered, according to company officials.

It facilitates shooting around corners and over the top of walls, without exposing the person using the pistol, they said.

India: RSS special training programme begins in Maha

Nagpur, May 9 (PTI) More than 700 RSS swayamsevaks are participating in a special 25-day training programme which commenced on Monday at the Hedgewar Smruti Mandir here in Maharashtra.

A Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh functionary informed that Sangh volunteers from various states in the age group of 18 to 40 years have been selected to participate in the 'Sangh Shiksha Varg-Tritiya Varsha' training programme.

Former RSS general secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi was present at the inauguration function.

India: Girl student falls from college's fourth floor, critical condition

Kanpur: A girl student fell from the fourth floor of DG College at Civil Lines here in a suspicious condition on Monday morning.

The incident caused a stir on the spot. On getting information about the incident, the police reached the spot and started an investigation.

She has been admitted to the hospital in a serious condition. There were injuries all over the body and the head.

The girl jumped herself or was pushed by someone or is it an accident. A police investigation is underway on all these three aspects.

Pakistan condemns terrorist attack in Egypt: FO Spokesperson

ISLAMABAD, May 8 (APP): Pakistan Sunday condemned the heinous terrorist attack in Sinai, Egypt which resulted in the death of 11 security personnel.

According to Foreign Office Spokesperson, the Government and people of Pakistan extend deepest condolences to the bereaved families. “We pray for the early recovery of those injured in the attack.”

“Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. We also reaffirm our solidarity with the brotherly people of Egypt,” he said.

Afghanistan receives 32-mln-USD humanitarian cash aid

KABUL, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Afghanistan received a batch of 32 million U.S. dollars in humanitarian cash assistance on Sunday, the country's central bank said.

"Following a series of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, a shipment of humanitarian aid worth 32 million dollars reached Afghanistan on Sunday. The cash aid was delivered to a commercial bank," Da Afghanistan Bank (DAB) said in a statement.

The central bank welcomed "the arrival of currencies into the country through principled and legal means."

Anger among Afghan women as face veil edict splits Taliban

India: LPG price hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder

New Delhi, May 7 (PTI) Cooking gas LPG price on Saturday was hiked by Rs 50 per cylinder to record high levels on the back of firming international energy rates.

A 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in the national capital will now cost Rs 999.50 as against Rs 949.50 per cylinder previously, a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers showed.

This is the second increase in LPG rates in six weeks. Rates were hiked by Rs 50 on March 22.
