Malegaon case: Court defers framing of charges against Purohit, others

Mumbai, Sep 5; PTI: A trial court here Wednesday deferred framing of charges against Lt Col Prasad Shrikant Purohit and other accused persons in the 2008 Malegaon blast case.

Special judge, National Investigation Agency (NIA) court, Vinod Padalkar deferred the framing of charges after Purohit and other accused raised objections on the validity of sanction for their prosecution under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

Activists case: PIL in HC seeks action against policemen who briefed media

Mumbai, Sep 4 (PTI) A PIL was filed in the Bombay High Court Tuesday, seeking action against senior IPS officer Parambir Singh and other police officials who briefed the media on their case against some prominent activists arrested over their alleged Maoist links.

Singh, state Additional Director General (Law and Order), along with the Pune police had addressed the media in Mumbai on the case on August 31.

SC to hear next week plea to stay Rafale deal

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday agreed to hear next week a PIL seeking stay on the Rafale fighter jet deal between India with France.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud considered the submissions of advocate M L Sharma that his plea be listed for urgent hearing.

In his PIL, Sharma alleged discrepancies in the fighter jet deal with France and sought stay on it.

A son has raped his own mother in Surani village of Madhya Pradesh

It is alleged that Kalu approached her mother in the night while his father was away, threatened to kill her, and then raped her.

According to Punjab Kesary, Kalu’s wife left him and three children two years ago. Since then, Kalu mother has been taking care of his children.

PTI's candidate Arif Alvi wins Pakistan's presidential election

ISLAMABAD, Sept. 4 (Xinhua) -- The ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) candidate Arif Alvi has won the presidential election of the country on Tuesday, according to official TV channel PTV News and initial reports of vote counting.

Three candidates competed for the slot of the 13th president of the country for the next five-year term.

Alvi also announced his victory after viewing the initial result at the parliament.

USD 300 million not aid, but what US owes to Pakistan for support in war against terror: Qureshi

Islamabad, Sep 3; PTI: The USD 300 million that the Pentagon has decided to scrap is not a military aid to Pakistan, but what it owns to Islamabad for its support in the war against terrorism and should reimburse it, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has asserted, sparking fresh bilateral tensions ahead of a key visit.

The Pentagon on Saturday announced that it will cancel USD 300 million aid to Pakistan over its failure to take actions against terror groups. Qureshi said the matter will be taken up during Secretary of State Mike Pompeo's visit to the country on September 5.

India to construct 100 airports worth USD 60 billion

New Delhi, Sep 4 (PTI) India plans to construct 100 airports at an estimated cost of USD 60 billion (about Rs 4.2 lakh crore) in the next 10 to 15 years, Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu said Tuesday.

The country's aviation sector is one of the fastest-growing in the world and has recorded 50 months of double-digit traffic growth.

As many as 100 new airports would be built in the next 10 to 15 years for about USD 60 billion. These airports are to be constructed through public private partnership, Prabhu said.

Afghan Taliban announces death of Haqqani network leader

Kabul, Sep 4 (AFP) The Taliban announced Tuesday the death of Jalaluddin Haqqani, a former CIA asset whose eponymous militant group is now considered one of the most dangerous factions fighting Afghan and US-led NATO forces in Afghanistan.

The Haqqani network was founded by Jalaluddin, an Afghan mujahideen commander fighting the Soviet occupation in the 1980s with the help of the United States and Pakistan.
