BJP's Ghanshyam Lodhi defeats Mohd Asim Raja of the SP by 42,192 votes.

AZAMGARH LOK SABHA SEAT

BJP's Dinesh Lal Yadav 'Nirahua' defeats nearest rival Dharmendra Yadav of the SP by 8,679 votes.

India: Yashwant Sinha files nomination for prez poll

New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) Opposition presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha on Monday filed his nomination papers for the July 18 election, with a host of leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, Akhilesh Yadav and Farooq Abdullah accompanying him.

Significantly, TRS leader K T Rama Rao, the son of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was also present when Sinha filed his papers.

India: Agnipath scheme rocks Bihar assembly

Patna, June 27 (PTI) Bihar Assembly was adjourned till 2 pm, less than half an hour after commencement of proceedings on Monday, when the House plunged into turmoil over an adjournment motion against Agnipath moved by the opposition which also, called the scheme a dictatorial step by the Prime Minister.

Proceedings began at 11 am, amid vociferous demands by opposition MLAs that the adjournment motion of Lalit Yadav (RJD) and Ajeet Sharma (Congress) be accepted right away.

India: Youth held for abducting, raping 14-year-old girl in UP

Ballia (UP), Jun 27 (PTI) A youth was arrested for allegedly abducting and raping a 14-year-old girl here on the pretext of marriage, police said on Monday.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajesh Tiwari said the minor was abducted by the 19-year-old youth on June 17 in Bansdih.

The youth was arrested on Sunday, he said.

On the complaint of the girl's brother, a case was registered under the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, Tiwari said.

Chaos grips Kanpur-Sagar highway as fishes fall in collision

Kanpur: A strange sight was seen all along  Harbaspur village of Bidhnu on the Kanpur-Sagar State Highway on Monday morning.

Following the collision of two trucks, people stopped the vehicle and started looting fish.

The traffic on the highway also came to a standstill due to the chaos as the people looting the fish were uncontrolled on the highway.

The injured drivers were admitted to the hospital by the police. Further, the damaged vehicles were removed to normalise the traffic.

On int’l day, Pakistan reiterates resolve for creating a drug free society, world

ISLAMABAD, Jun 26 (APP): Pakistan on Sunday joined the international community to observe the “International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking”, reiterating its steadfast resolve to create a drug free society and the world.

In a statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson said the drug abuse undermined public health and the socio-economic development besides challenging the national security and prosperity.

He said Pakistan itself was a poppy free country, but its population became a victim of regional opiate production and trade.

Pakistan: Torture is crime against humanity; IIOJK situation remains grim: President

ISLAMABAD, June 26 (APP): President Dr Arif Alvi Sunday said that torture was a crime against humanity and the situation was particularly grim in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IIOJK), where the people were being subjected to brutal torture by the Indian security forces.

Although torture was prohibited under both international and national laws, it still happened all around the world. “I reiterate that torture remains unacceptable and unjustified at all times,” the president said in a message on the occasion of International Day in Support of Victims of Torture.

Flood Death Toll Rises To 82 In Bangladesh

DHAKA, Jun 26 (NNN-BSS) – Floods, triggered by heavy seasonal rains and onrush of rivers in Bangladesh, have killed 82 people since last month, authorities said.

According to the daily flood report of the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room, most victims drowned, but some died of snake bites, lightning strikes and other reasons, in the flood-hit areas between, May 17 and Jun 25 (yesterday).

At least nine deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Destruction everywhere, help scarce after Afghanistan quake

GAYAN, Afghanistan (AP) — When the ground heaved from last week’s earthquake in Afghanistan, Nahim Gul’s stone-and-mud house collapsed on top of him.

He clawed through the rubble in the pre-dawn darkness, choking on dust as he searched for his father and two sisters. He doesn’t know how many hours of digging passed before he caught a glimpse of their bodies under the ruins. They were dead.
