India: Punjab suffers 88 per cent revenue loss in April: CM

Chandigarh, May 6 (PTI) Pegging the April revenue shortfall for Punjab at 88 per cent, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh on Wednesday said with all tax revenues dried up and only 1.5 per cent of the industry currently operational, the state was facing a difficult financial situation.

He said that the situation has been compounded by absence of aid from the central government.

India: Shops in Chandigarh to open on odd-even basis from May 4

Chandigarh, May 3 (PTI) All neighbourhood shops in Chandigarh will remain open from 10 am to 6 pm on an odd-even basis from Sunday, the union territory administration has said.

However, malls, market complexes and big shops will remain closed.

All shops in internal sector markets will remain open on an odd-even basis -- even numbered shops will open on May 4 and those with odd number on May 5.

India: Shops to open from 7 am to 7 pm in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, May 2 (PTI) In a relaxation for city residents, the UT Chandigarh administration on Saturday allowed opening of shops from 7 am to 7 pm with effect from May 4 in non-containment zone areas.

The administration also allowed residents to use their vehicles to come to the markets without passes, an official said.

Besides, the city administration has also decided to lift curfew on May 3 midnight but impose lockdown till May 17.

Chandigarh, May 2 (PTI) Industry in Punjab fears "exodus" of migrant workers from the state after the Centre allowed stranded labourers to move back to their respective places.

Industry representatives are concerned over resumption of units if labourers go back to their native places.

India: Rains trigger fear of wheat damage in Punjab

Chandigarh, Apr 18 (PTI) Rains that lashed several places in Punjab in the last 24 hours have triggered fear among farmers that the standing wheat crop would get damaged.

According to farmers, the rains have also "exposed the tall claims" of the state authorities for making a foolproof arrangement for saving crops at mandis from showers.

Hailstorm hit fields in Muktsar district on Friday, an official said, adding that the assessment of crop loss in affected areas was done.

India: Punjab allows sand mining, stone crushing from Apr 20

Chandigarh, Apr 19 (PTI) Sand and gravel mining and stone crushing have been permitted as part of the construction-related activities in Punjab from Monday, according to the state home department.

Also in view of the new academic session, shops dealing in distribution of books to school and college students have also been allowed to operate, as per an official release here.

India: Police officer dies of COVID-19 in Ludhiana

Chandigarh, Apr 18 (PTI) An assistant commissioner of police, who was undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at a private hospital in Ludhiana, died on Saturday.

"Sad News ACP Anil Kohli passed away. Died of #COVID-19. Was admitted in SPS Hospital Ludhiana," Ludhiana district public relations office tweeted.

ACP Anil Kohli had tested positive for coronavirus a few days ago.

On Friday, the Punjab government had given its go-ahead to the hospital to conduct plasma therapy on the police officer.

India: Police officer tests positive for COVID-19 in Ludhiana

Ludhiana (Punjab), Apr 13 (PTI) An assistant commissioner of police tested positive for novel coronavirus in Ludhiana in Punjab, a health official said on Monday.

Ludhiana Civil Surgeon Rajesh Bagga said the test reports of the officer, confirming him to be positive for the virus, came on Sunday night.

The ACP (North) was admitted to a local hospital, Bagga said, adding that the health teams were identifying his contacts.

India: Punjab distilleries supply free sanitizer to hospitals

Chandigarh, Mar 28 (PTI) Six distilleries in Punjab have supplied 33,000 litres of sanitizer free of cost to government hospitals in the state, an official said on Saturday.

The sanitizer was manufactured according to prescribed formula of mixing 96 per cent ethanol, 3 per cent hydrogen peroxide, glyceryl, permitted colour and sterile water, said Food and Drug administration Commissioner K S Pannu.
