Number of COVID-19 infections in Russia surpasses 14 mln since pandemic began

MOSCOW, February 13. /TASS/: Russia has registered 197,949 new confirmed COVID-19 infections over the past 24 hours, with the total number of infections reaching 14,133,509 cases, the anti-coronavirus crisis center told reporters on Sunday.

According to the crisis center, the relative increase of new infections is at the level of 1.4%.

Russia accused Washington of breaking international law and creating a national security threat over the incident at a time of high tensions between Moscow and Washington over a Russian military buildup near Ukraine.

Putin told Biden his ideas do not tackle main Russian concerns

MOSCOW, Feb 12 (Reuters) - Russian leader Vladimir Putin told U.S. President Joe Biden that Moscow would review ideas he laid out to address Russia's security demands in a phone call on Saturday, but that they still did not tackle Moscow's key concerns, the Kremlin said.

Biden and Putin spoke by phone amid high tension over a Russian military buildup near Ukraine that has fuelled fears of a looming invasion. Russia has repeatedly denied any such plans.

US military attache summoned to Russian Defense Ministry over submarine incident

MOSCOW, February 12. /TASS/: Russia’s Defense Ministry has summoned a US military attache over the incident with Virginia-class US nuclear-powered submarine detected on Saturday morning near the Pacific Fleet’s drills near Iturup Island of the Kuril Chain.

"The attache for defense issues at the US Embassy in Moscow has been summoned to the Russian Defense Ministry in connection with the violation of the Russian state border by the US Navy’s submarine," the ministry said in a statement.

Putin, Biden plan high-stakes phone call in Ukraine crisis

MOSCOW (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Joe Biden are to hold a high-stakes telephone call on Saturday as tensions over a possibility imminent invasion of Ukraine escalated sharply and the U.S. announced plans to evacuate its embassy in the Ukrainian capital.

Before talking to Biden, Putin is to have a call with French President Emmanuel Macron, who met with him in Moscow earlier in the week to try to resolve the crisis.
