Top EU official in Tehran to close gaps in Vienna nuclear talks

27 March 2022; MEMO: European Union's coordinator for Iran nuclear talks held wide-ranging discussions with Iranian officials in Tehran on Sunday in a bid to close remaining gaps on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal, Anadolu Agency reports.

Enrique Mora met with Ali Bagheri Kani, who has been leading Iran's team of negotiators in Vienna since November, after four weeks of deadlock.

Palestinian factions condemn 'summit of shame' held in Israel

28 March 2022; MEMO:The High Follow-up Committee of the National Islamic Factions condemned yesterday the "normalisation summit" that brought the foreign ministers of Israel and Arab states together in the Negev. Israeli Foreign Minister Yair Lapid, Sameh Shoukry of Egypt, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed of the UAE, Abdullatif Al-Zayani of Bahrain and Nasser Bourita of Morocco were joined at the meeting by US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.

Microsoft spent millions on bribes in Middle East and Africa: former director

27 March 2022; MEMO: Microsoft has been accused of being involved in a bribery scheme whereby millions of dollars were paid in illegal bribes in the Middle East and Africa.

According to a former senior director at the firm, Yasser Elabd, the tech giant spent over $200 million a year.

India: Central trade unions begin two-day nationwide strike

New Delhi, Mar 28 (PTI) Central trade unions on Monday began a two-day nationwide strike to protest against the government's alleged wrong policies that are affecting farmers, workers and people.

Talking to PTI Amarjeet Kaur, General Secretary of All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), said, "The two-day nationwide strike by the joint forum of central trade unions has begun this morning".

India: New airport to be built on Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway

Kanpur: A new international airport will be built on the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway.

At the same time, the existing Chaudhary Charan Singh Airport will be used for cargo.

The LDA has also sent the City Development Plan made as a vision document along with the proposal for the need of the new airport to the government for approval.

According to the CDP, it will be necessary to start a new airport by the year 2037. 

The capacity of the existing airport is completed.

Russia threatens to stop aid entry to northern Syria

26 March 2022; MEMO: Russia has threatened to prevent the entry of humanitarian aid into north-western Syria through the Bab Al-Hawa border crossing with Turkey.

The Russian deputy permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), Dmitry Polyanskiy, stated that his country: "Will not turn a blind eye to the failure of Western countries to comply with the resolution on cross-border humanitarian aid in Syria."

Iran: Oil production back to pre-sanction levels

26 March 2022; MEMO: Oil production in Iran has risen to what it was before sanctions were imposed by the US in 2018 after former President Donald Trump withdrew from the nuclear agreement.

The Iranian Ministry of Oil announced in a statement on Friday: "One of the promises of the Oil Ministry in the government of (Iranian) President Ebrahim Raisi has been fulfilled by returning Iran's oil production to the level before the unilateral US sanctions were imposed."

US to increase pressure on Iran if nuclear diplomacy fails: White House

25 March 2022; MEMO: The United States is still pursuing talks on Iran's nuclear program but will work with allies to increase pressure on Iran if diplomacy fails, White House National Security Adviser, Jake Sullivan, said on Friday.

The talks were close to an agreement until Russia made last-minute demands of the United States, insisting that sanctions imposed on Moscow over its invasion of Ukraine would not hurt its trade with Iran, Reuters reports.
