NATO forces in Kosovo escalating situation in region — Russian MFA

MOSCOW, May 30. /TASS/: The NATO-led international security force in Kosovo known as KFOR has turned into a source of unwarranted violence and escalation in the region, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a statement on Tuesday.

The statement followed an outbreak of violence against Serbs in Kosovo.

Ukrainian army lost 16,000 troops, 400 tanks over past month — Shoigu

MOSCOW, May 30. /TASS/: The Ukrainian army has lost over 16,000 troops, 16 aircraft and over 400 tanks and other armored vehicles over the past month, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said on Tuesday.

"Russian forces continue to inflict an effective fire impact on the enemy. Its losses this month alone totaled over 16,000 troops, 16 aircraft, 5 helicopters, 466 drones, over 400 tanks and other armored combat vehicles, and 238 field artillery pieces and mortars," Shoigu said during a conference call.

Vietnam eyes multi-million-dollar handouts to Samsung, others to offset global tax

HANOI, May 30 (Reuters) - Samsung and other foreign companies are pushing Vietnam to introduce a multi-million-dollar reform that would compensate them for higher levies they face from next year under a global overhaul of tax rules, a source involved in the talks said.

The discussions precede the introduction from January of a minimum tax rate of 15% for large multinationals under a landmark global reform led by the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Breached Sudan truce extended five days: US, Saudi mediators

KHARTOUM, May 30 (NNN-AGENCIES) – The United States and Saudi Arabia said late Monday that a humanitarian truce, repeatedly violated by warring sides in Sudan, has been extended by five days.
 
   The mediators “welcome agreement by the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces to a five-day extension of the ceasefire agreement they signed on May 20, 2023,” a joint statement said.
 

USA: 9 injured in shooting near beach in Hollywood, Florida

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. (AP) — Nine people were injured Monday evening when gunfire erupted along a beachside promenade in Hollywood, Florida, sending people frantically running for cover along the crowded beach on Memorial Day.

Several of the wounded were taken to a children’s hospital, police spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi said.

The nine people hurt included six adults and three children, according to Yanet Obarrio Sanchez, a spokesperson for Memorial Healthcare System. All of the victims were in stable condition, she said.

Israel: National security minister Ben-Gvir sues former defence minister

29 May 2023; MEMO: Israel's far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir filed a lawsuit on Sunday against former defence minister Moshe Ya'alon.

"I filed a lawsuit against the "failed former Member of Knesset Moshe Ya'alon for spreading lies against me," Ben-Gvir wrote in a post on his Twitter account.

"If Ya'alon thinks that the immunity granted to him by the Knesset is eternal, he is making a bitter mistake," Ben-Gvir added.

Indian training aircraft makes emergency landing, pilots injured

NEW DELHI, May 30 (Xinhua) -- A two-seater training aircraft made an emergency landing on Tuesday in India's southern state of Karnataka following a technical glitch, confirmed a local cop.

The aircraft, with a pilot and a trainee pilot onboard, developed a technical problem. The pilot managed to land the aircraft on a farm field in Honnihala village in Belagavi, seven kilometers from Sambra Airport, at a controlled speed, which saved the lives of both pilots, local media said.

The two pilots had minor injuries and were admitted to a hospital.

Five border police officers arrested in Greece for smuggling migrants from Turkiye

ATHENS, May 30 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Five Greek border police officers were arraigned Tuesday as suspected accomplices of a smuggling network that illegally brought migrants into the country from Turkiye.

The five men appeared before a prosecutor in the northeastern city of Orestiada, a day after the police department’s internal affairs division said they had been arrested on suspicion of taking bribes and breach of duty.

Papua New Guinea says security treaty with Australia has been delayed over certain provisions

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — Papua New Guinean Prime Minister James Marape said a proposed security treaty with Australia has been delayed over “certain wordings and provisions,” a week after the strategically important South Pacific Island nation signed a new security pact with the United States that sparked protests.

Marape informed Australian Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles of the delay on Monday on the sidelines of an international forum in South Korea, the Papua New Guinean leader’s office said in a statement Tuesday.

Addressing a joint presser with visiting Belarusian Foreign Minister Sergei Aleinik, the foreign minister said they held a very fruitful and constructive meeting, and discussed entire areas of cooperation between the two countries.
