Venezuelan women are increasingly taking up the grueling work of fishing in the Caribbean

CHUAO, Venezuela (AP) — Long before sunrise, dozens of people gather around more than 50 boats along this portion of Venezuela’s vast Caribbean coast, their tanned bodies showing scars and maimed hands from years of fishing. Most of them are men, but women are increasingly among them.

The women may be joining a family tradition of fishing, or in some cases launching new careers after losing jobs during Venezuela’s economic crisis, enlisting in the physically demanding work that may pay $8 after five consecutive 12-hour shifts.

Jordan Downs Drone Along Border With Syria

AMMAN, Jun 29 (NNN-PETRA) – The Jordan Armed Forces said yesterday that, its eastern regional forces shot down a drone coming from Syria, the third drone intercepted this month.

The Jordanian forces downed the drone within the kingdom’s territory, after its illegal border crossing from Syria was detected by the Jordanian border guards, anti-narcotics department, and military intelligence, a military source said.

The report added that, items carried by the drone were seized, without detailing.

Israel: Proper Iodine Intake May Reduce Risk Of Large Babies: Study

JERUSALEM, Jun 29 (NNN-MA’AN) – Israeli researchers found in a study that, adequate iodine intake during pregnancy may reduce the risk of oversized newborns, the Barzilai Medical Centre in southern Israel said, in a statement yesterday.

Previous studies showed, newborns with a large body size are at an increased risk of hyperglycemia, birth trauma, cesarean delivery, bone fracture, and in extreme cases death.

Meanwhile, having a large infant also increases a mother’s risk of postpartum hemorrhage, or excessive bleeding at birth.

Germany: Discrimination cases reach new heights in 2022 with 14% increase

28 June 2023; MEMO: The number of people filing discrimination complaints increased by 14 per cent in Germany in 2022 compared to 2021, to a total of 8,827, the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency said Tuesday.

"We have never had so many people submit applications to the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency as we did last year," said Ferda Ataman, the head of Germany's anti-discrimination office, in announcing the report at a news conference in Berlin, Anadolu Agency reports.

Israel: Netanyahu informs US Congress of planned visit to China

UNESCO member states expected to approve US decision to rejoin the UN’s cultural agency

PARIS (AP) — UNESCO’s 193 members states are gathering Thursday for a two-day meeting in Paris aimed at voting on the United States’ plans to rejoin the U.N. cultural and scientific agency after a decade-long dispute sparked by the organization’s move to include Palestine as a member.

The U.S. announced earlier this month, that it wanted to return, five years after it withdrew from the agency during the presidency of Donald Trump.
