Decade-long CPEC brings Chinese companies, technologies to Pakistan: Khurram Dastgir

BEIJING, Jul 13 (APP): Thanks to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Pakistan is now slowly moving from imported fuels to local fuel for power generation and from outdated technology to new Chinese technology, Minister for Power, Khurram Dastgir Khan has said.

“This shift is happening and Chinese companies are much more visible now.

They are bringing their technology, their management to Pakistan, and they are teaching Pakistani engineers and workers,” he told Xinhua in a recent interview at a power transmission project under the CPEC.

Sudan's neighboring countries hold summit in Cairo to discuss solutions to ongoing conflict

CAIRO, July 13 (Xinhua) -- The Sudan's Neighboring Countries Summit kicked off in Cairo on Thursday to discuss a solution to the ongoing conflict between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

Participants of the summit aim to "develop effective mechanisms" to resolve the conflict peacefully, in coordination with other regional and international efforts, the Egyptian presidency said in a statement.

Indian PM Leaves For Official Visits To France, UAE

UN rights council condemns Koran burnings despite splits

GENEVA, July 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The UN Human Rights Council voted Wednesday to condemn recent Koran burning incidents, but many countries declined to back the measure, fearing it encroached too much on free speech.

Despite overwhelming condemnation of the Muslim holy book being desecrated, the vote brought more division than unity as Western nations said that more negotiation could have resulted in a unanimous consensus.

Mass grave with at least 87 bodies found in Sudan’s volatile Darfur region, United Nations says

CAIRO (AP) — The bodies of dozens of people allegedly killed by Sudanese paramilitary forces and an allied militia have been uncovered in a mass grave in West Darfur, the United Nations said Thursday.

According to “credible information” obtained by the U.N. Human Rights Office, at least 87 people — some of them from the ethnic African Masalit tribe — were killed by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces and an affiliated Arab militia. Their bodies were dumped in a one-meter (around three-foot) grave just outside the West Darfur city of Geneina, the agency said.

Police destroy drug lab, arrest possessor in north Afghanistan

SHEBERGHAN, Afghanistan, July 12 (Xinhua) -- Police have discovered and destroyed a drug processing lab and arrested its owner in north Afghanistan's Jawzjan province, Mohammad Younus Akhundzada, the provincial director for counter-narcotics police, said Wednesday.

"After spotting the place by security personnel of Qushtepa district we launched operations today and destroyed the drug lab with all its facilities," Akhundzada said, adding that they also arrested the owner of the lab.

Malaysia retains position as 5th largest LNG exporter in 2022 – report

KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 (NNN-Bernama) — Malaysia has retained its position as the fifth largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) in 2022, after Australia, the United States, Qatar and Russia.

According to the International Gas Union’s 14th annual World LNG Report 2023 released on July 12, LNG exports from Malaysia in 2022 stood at 27.3 million tonnes (MT), an increase from 24.9 MT in 2021, which constitutes about seven per cent of the total LNG traded globally.

Israel detains chief guard of Al-Aqsa from his home in Jerusalem

13 July 2023; MEMO: Israeli occupation forces yesterday stormed the house of Sheikh Najeh Bkeerat, chief guard of Al-Aqsa Mosque, and detained him, Quds Press reported.

Bkeerat's house is located in Sur Baher, south of the occupied holy city of Jerusalem.

On 20 June, the Israeli occupation authorities ordered Bkeerat not to go to Al-Aqsa, giving him 72 hours to implement it.

New probes contradicts Greek coastguard account of migrant tragedy

11 July 2023; MEMO: A new investigation by the Guardian and others has found that attempts by the Greek coastguard in June to tow a boat carrying roughly 750 refugees which capsized leaving only 104 survivors may have caused the vessel to sink.

Most of the passengers were from Egypt, Syria, Palestine and Pakistan. Nine of the survivors have been arrested on charges of involuntary manslaughter, causing a shipwreck and migrant smuggling and have denied the charges.
