WASHINGTON, July 17 (Reuters) - Senior U.S. chip company executives are holding meetings with Biden administration officials on Monday to discuss China policy as the U.S. considers new restrictions, a source told Reuters.

Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, National Economic Council director Lael Brainard and National Security Council director Jake Sullivan on Monday are among government officials who are holding the meetings with Intel (INTC.O), Qualcomm (QCOM.O) and Nvidia (NVDA.O), the source said.

USA: Senator Manchin speech stokes speculation of White House run

WASHINGTON, July 17 (Reuters) - Maverick Democratic Senator Joe Manchin on Monday is set to address a bipartisan group in New Hampshire, a critical early-voting state in the 2024 presidential primary elections, feeding speculation that he could be weighing a third-party candidacy.

The former West Virginia governor, first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2010, will speak to the "No Labels" organization promoting the possibility of backing a third-party candidate.

Russia: Kremlin announced grain deal termination

"The Black Sea agreements are no longer in effect. The deadline, as the Russian president said earlier, is July 17. Unfortunately, the part of the Black Sea agreement that concerns Russia has not yet been fulfilled. As a result, it has been terminated," he said.

At Least Three Killed After Boat Capsized In Bangladeshi Capital River

DHAKA, Jul 17 (NNN-BSS) – At least three bodies were recovered, after a waterbus capsized in the Buriganga river, in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, last night, a police official said.

Shahinur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dhaka’s Kotwali police station, said that, “the bodies of two men and a boy have so far been retrieved.”

According to the official, the boat carrying about 60 people, capsized following a collision with a sand-laden vessel on the river, at around 8:15 p.m. local time yesterday.

Greece: Wildfires rage near Greek capital, houses damaged

KOUVARAS, Greece, July 17 (Reuters) - Villagers were ordered to leave their homes and hundreds of children were evacuated from a summer camp as two separate wildfires fanned by strong winds damaged houses to the southeast and west of Athens on Monday, authorities said.

The blaze that broke out in the village of Kouvaras, about 27 km (17 miles) from the Greek capital, spread fast amid erratic winds, a Greek fire service official said.

About 200 firemen with the help of around 20 soldiers, 68 engines and 16 aircraft were trying to control the flames, the official added.

Türkiye's Erdogan seeks to salvage Ukraine grain deal

ISTANBUL, July 17 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday said that a multilateral deal allowed for shipments of grain and other agricultural products from Ukraine's Black Sea ports could be saved.

The Black Sea Grain Initiative, brokered by Türkiye and the United Nations to help alleviate the global food crisis after the Russia-Ukraine conflict, expired on Monday.

Moscow said the deal ended and it would not be renewed unless its conditions were met.

Palestine: 3 illegal Israeli settlers injured in drive-by shooting in occupied West Bank

16 July 2023; MEMO: Three Israeli settlers were injured in a drive-by shooting on Sunday in the occupied West Bank, according to the military, reports Anadolu Agency.

In a statement, the army said the settlers' car came under fire from a vehicle close to the Tekoa Israeli military post, near Bethlehem city.

One Israeli was in serious condition, while the other two were lightly injured in the attack, the Magen David Adom ambulance service said.

Speaking to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) ahead of the arrival of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida to the kingdom yesterday, the minister said the kingdom will continue cooperating with Tokyo on clean hydrogen, ammonia and recycled carbon fuels.
