China-funded New Gwadar Int’l Airport to be inaugurated soon: Commercial Counselor

BEIJING, Jul 25 (APP): The China-funded New Gwadar International Airport, the flagship project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), is likely to be inaugurated soon, Commercial Counselor, Pakistan Embassy Beijing, Ghulam Qadir said on Tuesday.

A high-powered Chinese delegation will fly to Pakistan to participate in the inauguration ceremony, he told APP.
Launched in 2019, the $230-million project fully funded by the Chinese government is located in the Gurandani, 26 km east of Balochistan’s Gwadar city.

USA: Sudan fighting kills, injures thousands of civilians, displaces millions: UN

UNITED NATIONS, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Fighting in Sudan began 100 days ago and thousands of civilians have been killed or wounded and millions more displaced, UN humanitarians said on Monday.

"One hundred days of fighting have exacted a devastating toll on the civilian population," the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said. "It is a senseless conflict, and it must stop now."

The UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) reported that during that same period, on average at least one child was injured or killed every hour of the conflict, OCHA said.

Wildfires across Algeria have killed 25 people, including 10 soldiers who were battling the flames

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) — Wildfires raging across Algeria have killed 25 people, including 10 soldiers trying to get the flames under control in the face of high winds and scorching summer temperatures, government ministries said Monday.

At least 1,500 people were evacuated, the Interior Ministry said, without providing details.

The Interior Ministry announced 15 deaths and 24 injuries. In addition, the Defense Ministry later announced 10 soldiers were killed and 25 injured as they fought fires in the resort area of Beni Ksila east of the capital Algiers.

Five Dead In Bridge Collapse In Southern Philippines

MANILA, Jul 25 (NNN-PNA) – Five people were killed, after a steel bridge under construction collapsed, in Davao City, in the southern Philippines, police said today.

Police said, the victims were installing the bridge’s side panel using a boom truck when the structure collapsed at around 3:30 p.m. local time yesterday, burying seven workers.

Two were critically injured but survived. An investigation has been launched into the accident.

Sudan: 70% of hospitals not working, say doctors

24 July 2023; MEMO: The Sudan Doctors' Union said yesterday that 70 per cent of hospitals are not operational in the areas where fighting is taking place between the army and the Rapid Support Forces. The union pointed out that there are "62 hospitals suspended from service, and 27 hospitals fully or partially working" in the capital Khartoum and other cities.

33,000 more Ukrainians arrive in Poland, bringing total to 13.8M since war began

23 July 2023; AA: Some 33,700 more Ukrainians have crossed into Poland in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of people fleeing war in their country to over 13 million, Polish authorities said on Sunday.

More than 13.8 million people have crossed into Poland from Ukraine since Feb. 24, 2022, when Russia launched its war against Ukraine, according to Polish Border Guard figures.

Iran: 'Region can be secured without foreign interference'

Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s foreign minister says regional countries can ensure the security of the Persian Gulf region without the interference of extra-regional forces.

“The security of the Persian Gulf region is important to the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the countries of the region can ensure the security of this region without foreign interference,” Hossein Amirabdollahian said during a phone conversation with his counterpart from the United Arab Emirates Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan late on Saturday.

Netherlands: Sixty-two arrested in Europol-Interpol human trafficking crackdown

AMSTERDAM, July 24 (Reuters) - Law enforcement from five countries have disrupted an intercontinental criminal network that was smuggling migrants from Cuba to the European Union, with the move leading to the arrest of 62 people, Europol and Interpol, who coordinated the international investigation, said on Monday.

A Europol statement said the criminal network focused on Cubans in vulnerable situations, and that for 9,000 euros ($9,969.30), it would organise their journey to Europe and provide false documentation.

US announces punitive measures over concerns Cambodia’s elections were ‘neither free nor fair
