Ankara evacuates more than 1,200 people as Greece wildfires spread to Turkiye

24 August 2023; MEMO: Nine villages and more than 1,200 people have been evacuated as wildfires, raging in Greece, spread to neighbouring Turkiye, local media reports.

According to the report, the wildfires raging in Greece are also affecting neighbouring border province of Canakkale in Turkiye.

More than 1,500 hectares have burned, and 48 people had to be treated for smoke intoxication.

Turkiye accelerates reconstruction of earthquake-ravaged region

24 August 2023; MEMO: Turkiye has mobilised all resources to rebuild the earthquake-ravaged region, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Wednesday, Anadolu Agency reports.

Erdogan spoke at the ground-breaking ceremony in Turkiye’s Adiyaman province via live video link from the Presidential Complex in the capital, Ankara.

Adiyaman is one of 11 cities hit by severe twin earthquakes on 6 February. 

Buildings collapse in India's landslide, no deaths reported

NEW DELHI, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) -- There were no deaths reported in Thursday's massive landslide in India's northern hilly state of Himachal Pradesh, confirmed a senior state government official.

Several buildings collapsed in the massive landslide, and a few more buildings in the vicinity have also been declared unsafe, said Ashwini Kumar, Additional District Magistrate of Anni town, Kullu district in the state.

Russia: Prigozhin plane crash: Villagers hear bang, then see plane plummet to ground

KUZHENKINO, Russia, Aug 24 (Reuters) - Residents of a village near the site of a plane crash which is believed to have killed Russian mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin said they had heard a bang, then saw the jet plummet to the ground.

The plane, an Embraer Legacy 600private jet, crashed on Wednesday near the village of Kuzhenkino in Russia's Tver region on its way from Moscow to St. Petersburg and killed all 10 people on board - seven passengers and three crew members.

Russian forces cripple Ukrainian military command center in overnight precision strike

MOSCOW, August 24. /TASS/: Russian forces delivered a multiple-launch strike by high-precision weapons, destroying a Ukrainian military command center over the past day in the special military operation in Ukraine, Defense Ministry Spokesman Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov reported on Thursday.

"Last night, the Russian Armed Forces delivered a multiple-launch strike by seaborne and ground-based long-range precision weapons against a Ukrainian military command center," the spokesman said.

Landmine Blast Killed Two In Yemen’s Red Sea Port City

SANAA, Aug 24 (NNN-SABA) – Two people were killed yesterday, in a landmine explosion in Yemen’s Red Sea port city of Hodeidah, Yemen’s Ministry of Human Rights said in a statement.

The landmine exploded when the two civilians walked over it, on the side of a road in the al-Hayet area, in the southern district of al-Durayhimi, killing them on the spot.

Hodeidah witnessed a shaky cease-fire between Yemeni government forces and the Houthi militia, since they reached a UN-sponsored truce in Stockholm in Dec, 2018.

RAMALLAH/GAZA, Aug. 23 (Xinhua) -- The Israeli army Wednesday arrested 20 Palestinians, including members of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the West Bank, a Palestinian association said.

S. Korean opposition party chief calls Japan's nuke wastewater dumping "act of terror"

Seven Killed, Eight Injured In Van-Truck Collision In Southern Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, Aug 24 (NNN-APP) – At least seven people were killed and eight others injured today, in a collision between a van and a truck, in Thatta district of Pakistan’s southern Sindh province, the rescue service reported.

According to the reports, the accident took place in the morning, on the National Highway near Jhirk area of the city, when the vehicles coming from the opposite direction, on a single-track road, collided with each other.
