BERLIN (AP) — German Chancellor Olaf Scholz dismissed a suggestion by a junior coalition partner that the country should keep open the option of using its closed nuclear power plants, declaring that atomic energy is a “dead horse” in Germany.

Germany switched off its last three nuclear reactors in April, completing a process that received wide political support after Japan’s Fukushima nuclear reactor disaster in 2011. But some argued for a rethink after energy prices spiked because of the war in Ukraine.

Russia says its forces destroyed Ukrainian sea drone moving to attack Crimean Bridge

MOSCOW, September 2. /TASS/: Russian forces destroyed a sea drone in the Black Sea that Kiev had launched in an attempt to strike the Crimean Bridge, the Russian Defense Ministry told reporters.

"At 11:15 p.m. Moscow time on September 1, the Kiev regime attempted a terrorist strike on the Crimean Bridge with a semi-submersible uncrewed surface vessel. The Ukrainian sea drone was timely detected and destroyed in the waters of the Black Sea," the ministry said.

USA: Court revives doctors’ lawsuit saying FDA overstepped its authority with anti-ivermectin campaign

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — A federal appeals court Friday revived a lawsuit by three doctors who say the Food and Drug Administration overstepped its authority in a campaign against treating COVID-19 with the anti-parasite drug ivermectin.

Ivermectin is commonly used to treat parasites in livestock. It can also be prescribed for humans and it has been championed by some conservatives as a treatment for COVID-19. The FDA has not approved ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment because studies have not proven it is effective.

Ukraine troops are 'moving forward', Zelenskiy says in rebuff to critics

385 people remain missing in U.S. Maui island wildfires disaster

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 1 (Xinhua) -- The number of people missing in the wildfires on the U.S. Hawaiian island of Maui decreased slightly to 385, authorities said on Friday.

This update is down from 388 on the first list of missing people, which was released on Aug. 24, said the Maui Police Department and the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation in a news release.

Officials said over 3,000 individuals had been found safe, who were previously reported unaccounted for, with their names provided to the public.
