Drug kingpin El Chapo's wife Emma Coronel set to be released, say US authorities

Sept 12 (Reuters) - Emma Coronel, the wife of imprisoned Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman, will be freed in Los Angeles on Wednesday following her arrest in 2021 on drug trafficking charges, according to the U.S. Bureau of Prisons.

The U.S.-born 34-year-old was sentenced to three years in prison in 2021 after pleading guilty to three counts of helping the Sinaloa drug cartel, including conspiracy to launder money and distribute illegal drugs and engaging in financial dealings.

Belgium: EU lifts sanctions imposed earlier on four Russian nationals, Council of the EU says

BRUSSELS, September 13. /TASS/: The European Union has decided to lift sanctions that had been imposed previously on four Russian nationals due to the alleged "threat to and undermining of the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine," the Council of the European Union announced on Wednesday.

"In the context of a review of sanctions, the Council has also decided not to renew the [sanctions] listings of four individuals," the Council’s statement says.

Taiwan reports 28 Chinese air force planes in its air defence zone

The fire started just before midnight Tuesday in a building housing about 150 residents. More than 330 mn children still in extreme poverty: UNICEF

WASHINGTON, Sept 13 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The Covid-19 pandemic caused a sharp slowdown in the fight to end child poverty, with 333 million children still living in extreme poverty, according to a report published Wednesday.

The report from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) and the World Bank found that the pandemic led to the abolition of extreme poverty for 30 million fewer children than was previously predicted.

As a result, around one in six children still live on less than $2.15 per day, according to the report.
