Pakistan tells UN to consider deployment of protection force in Palestine

28 October 2023; MEMO: As Israeli aerial bombardment of the besieged Gaza Strip continues, Pakistan on Friday put its weight behind a proposal to deploy a protection force in Palestine, Anadolu reports.

“We need to consider ways to prevent a recurrence of this slaughter,” Foreign Minister Munir Akram told the UN General Assembly.

Kuwait deports second Indian nurse for supporting Israel bombing of Gaza

30 October 2023; MEMO: Kuwait issued a directive to deport an Indian nurse because of her support for the Israeli occupation in its war on Gaza.

According to Kuwait’s Al-Rai newspaper yesterday: “The Ministry of Interior deported an Indian nurse from Kuwait who was working in Al-Sabah Hospital [in the capital], after she supported the occupation in its war against Palestine.”

Venezuela’s high court has suspended the opposition’s primary election process, including its result

CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — Venezuela’s high court on Monday suspended the opposition’s entire primary election process, including its result, in the latest challenge by the government of Nicolás Maduro to its adversaries ahead of the 2024 presidential vote.

The court ruled the opposition’s Oct. 22 contest may be in violation of the law. It was not immediately clear whether the suspension would effectively result in the nullification of the primary vote.

St. Louis County prosecutor drops U.S. Senate bid, will instead oppose Cori Bush in House race

USA: Online threats stoke fear among Jewish students at Cornell University

ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — Threatening statements about Jews on an internet discussion board have unnerved students at Cornell University and prompted officials to send police to guard a Jewish center and kosher dining hall.

The menacing, anonymous messages, posted over the weekend in an online forum about fraternities and sororities, came amid a torrent of antisemitic and anti-Muslim rhetoric that has flowed on social media during the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

U.S. strikes trucks on Syrian-Iraqi border

DAMASCUS, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- U.S. airstrikes hit truckloads of construction materials on the Syrian-Iraqi border early Monday, followed by retaliatory shelling on a U.S. military base in Syria's eastern province of Deir al-Zour, media reports said.

According to the Lebanese al-Mayadeen TV, seven trucks transporting construction materials were targeted by U.S. bombings in eastern Syria, near the border with Iraq.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Nikki Haley claimed new momentum in the race to supplant Donald Trump as her party’s front-runner during an appearance in her home state Monday, where she formally filed to appear on the South Carolina Republican presidential primary ballot.

The former South Carolina governor and United Nations ambassador returned to the Statehouse where her political career took off for a signing ceremony. She suggested that by the time of South Carolina’s Feb. 24 primary, she might be able to beat Trump, who maintains huge leads nationally and in early primary states.

Ukraine to introduce multi-level protection of energy facilities

KIEV, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- Ukraine will introduce multi-level protection of energy facilities, the government press service reported Monday, citing Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko.

The "protective shield" over Ukraine's energy infrastructure will include air defense systems and equipment, making Ukraine the first country in the world to have such protection of energy facilities, Galushchenko said.
