Lebanon retirees scuffle with police; 2022 budget approved

BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanese army retirees scuffled with parliamentary guard troops as they briefly broke through a cordon leading to Parliament in downtown Beirut during a rally Monday. They were protesting their decimated monthly pay amid the country’s economic meltdown.

The troops managed to push the crowd back and fired teargas, forcing the elderly retirees to turn away from the street. After a short while, they gathered nearby to continue their protest and demand higher pay. They later dispersed.

Kremlin says no decision yet on whether to seal Russia's borders to stop men fleeing

KYIV, Sept 26 (Reuters) - The Kremlin said on Monday no decision had been taken on whether to seal Russia's borders to stop an exodus of military-aged men fleeing the country, after days of chaotic scenes during its first military mobilisation since World War Two.

Asked about the prospect of the border being shut, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters: "I don't know anything about this. At the moment, no decisions have been taken on this."

Pakistan: Flights carrying relief assistance from KSA, Turkiye arrived at Karachi

ISLAMABAD, Sep 26 (APP): One each relief assistance flight from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) and Turkiye on Monday landed at Jinnah International Airport, Karachi.

A total of 9 such flights carrying relief goods for the flood affectees of Pakistan had arrived from KSA, Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release.

While, one relief assistance flight from Turkiye was also received at Jinnah International airport, Karachi.

It was 14th flight from Turkiye, carrying relief goods for the people affected by unprecedented floods in Pakistan.

Norlen reelected as Swedish parliament speaker

STOCKHOLM, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Andreas Norlen was reelected on Monday as the speaker of the Swedish parliament.

The speaker of the parliament is second only to the King in terms of formal rank. Norlen, who comes from the Moderate party, had been nominated by the opposition blue block that narrowly won the election on Sept. 11.

"I would like to thank the parties that acted differently than they usually do in speaker elections," local media quoted Norlen as saying, referring to both blocs' support for his nomination.

Russia and Belarus will fly their own planes, drive their own cars, says Lukashenko

SOCHI, September 26. /TASS/: Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko believes that joint import substitution projects of Russia and Belarus will make it possible to replace products previously supplied from unfriendly countries.

"We are doing well with import substitution. We will fly our own planes - both military and civilian. We will travel in our own cars. There is no fear," Lukashenko said at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday.

Canada won’t require masks on planes, drops vaccine mandate

TORONTO (AP) — The Canadian government announced Monday it will no longer require people to wear masks on planes to guard against COVID-19..

Transport Canada said the existing rules for masks will come off Oct. 1

“We are able to do this because tens of millions of Canadians rolled up their sleeves and got vaccinated,” Transport Minister Omar Alghabra said.

Government officials also confirmed Canada is dropping the vaccine requirement for people entering the country at the end of the month.

China, Malaysia economic and trade cooperation reach new highs

EU has 'serious questions' as Serbia enters regular consultations with Russia

BRUSSELS, Sept 26 (Reuters) - The EU on Monday denounced a decision by Serbia to hold foreign policy consultations with Russia, saying it raised questions at a time when Brussels has told countries seeking to join the bloc not to carry on with business as usual with Moscow.

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Serbian counterpart Nikola Selakovic signed a document on Friday dubbed a "plan on consultations".

Saudi women's football team draws in first international at home

Saudi Arabia's women's national football team made history yesterday after playing their first ever international fixture on home soil.

The team known as the Green Falcons, led by German coach Monika Staab drew 3-3 with visitors Bhutan at the Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Stadium in Abha with a late equaliser in the 90th minute by Noura Al-Ibrahim. The Saudi team will face the same opponents again on Wednesday.
