China rejects EU's allegations of EV overcapacity export: ambassador

BRUSSELS, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to the European Union (EU) Fu Cong on Thursday dismissed a recent claim that China is exporting its overcapacity of electric vehicles (EV) to the European market.

"I want to emphasize the fact that the Chinese companies are selling cars in Europe does not by itself signify an overcapacity," the ambassador said during the Europe-China Forum held here by Friends of Europe, a Brussels-based non-profit think tank for EU policy.

Some 300 participants, including policymakers, businessmen and researchers, attended the event.

Police arrested 34 people overnight after up to 500 people looted shops, set fire to vehicles and threw rocks at crowd control officers equipped with helmets and shields. The violence began after rumors circulated that a foreign national was responsible for the attack outside a Dublin school on Thursday afternoon.

USA: Several more children sickened by fruit pouches tainted with lead, FDA says

WASHINGTON (AP) — More children were apparently sickened by apple puree pouches recently recalled due to dangerous lead contamination, the Food and Drug Administration said.

The agency has received 52 reports of elevated lead levels among children who reportedly consumed the products, which is up from 34 cases reported last week. The reports span 22 states and involve children between the ages of 1 to 4, according to the FDA’s online update on the investigation.

Palestine: First fuel trucks enter Gaza Strip under truce deal

GAZA, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Trucks loaded with fuel and cooking gas entered the Gaza Strip after a temporary cease-fire between Israel and Hamas entered into force Friday morning, a Palestinian source said.

A Palestinian security source, who requires anonymity, said that "the fuel and cooking gas trucks began arriving in the special area to be transported to the Gaza Strip, followed by convoys of humanitarian supplies through the Rafah land crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt."

Russia: Kremlin says NATO's desire for a 'military Schengen' zone in Europe ratchets up tensions

MOSCOW, Nov 24 (Reuters) - The Kremlin said on Friday that NATO's desire to have a military analogue of the Schengen Zone in Europe to allow the alliance's armed forces to move around freely to counter Russia had ratcheted up tensions and was a cause for concern.

The chief of NATO's logistics command JSEC, Lieutenant-General Alexander Sollfrank, told Reuters in an interview published on Thursday that he would like to see such a zone.
