Passengers of SSJ 100 plane fly to Moscow after aborted takeoff

ULYANOVSK, May 19. /TASS/: Passengers of Aeroflot’s Sukhoi Superjet 100, which aborted takeoff from Ulyanovsk on Saturday due to technical reasons, flew to Moscow by Airbus A320 on Sunday morning, the airport’s Director-General Sergey Nakonechny told TASS.

Earlier a TASS source said that Sukhoi Superjet 100, which was scheduled to take off from Ulyanovsk to Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport at 17:20 (16:20 Moscow Time) returned to the airport due to technical reasons.

Italy mum who killed kids acquitted

(ANSA) - mantua, May 17: A mother who killed her two children in December 2017 was acquitted Friday after a court ruled she was not in her right mind.

The court said 41-year-old Antonella Barbieri was unable to understand what she was doing when she killed five-year-old Lorenzo Zeus at Suzzara near Mantua and two-year-old Kim at Luzzara near Reggio Emilia on December 7 that year.

Austrian leader calls an early election amid video scandal

VIENNA (AP) — Austrian Chancellor Sebastian Kurz called Saturday for an early election after his vice chancellor resigned over a covertly shot video that showed him apparently promising government contracts to a prospective Russian investor.

Kurz said he would ask President Alexander Van der Bellen to set a date for a new election “as soon as possible.”

VIENNA, May 18 (Xinhua): Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen approved on Saturday the proposal of holding snap elections after the far-right vice chancellor resigned over an alleged corruption video and effectively led to the collapse of the coalition government.

Chancellor Sebastian Kurz announced at a press conference Saturday evening that considering both the Social Democratic Party (SPO) and the Freedom Party (FPO) "are not what our country needs", it is necessary to carry out elections "at the earliest opportunity".

Amazon takes top stake in UK food delivery firm Deliveroo

LONDON (AP) — Amazon is investing in British meal delivery company Deliveroo, giving the online shopping behemoth a larger stake in the fast-growing restaurant delivery business.

Amazon failed to get its own restaurant delivery business going in the United Kingdom, shutting it down for good late last year. It faced tough competition from Deliveroo, as well as its other rivals in the country such as Just Eat and UberEats. Amazon’s service, called Amazon Restaurants, still operates in several U.S. cities.

Ukrainian army shells Lugansk Republic six times over past 24 hours

LUGANSK, May 18. /TASS/: The Ukrainian army has shelled the positions of people’s militia in the self-proclaimed Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) six times over the past 24 hours, the LPR defense ministry said on Saturday.

"The shelling targeted the areas of Pervomaisk, the urban-type settlement of Frunze, the villages of Zhelobok and Smeloye," the LuganskInformCenter news agency quoted a spokesman for the LPR people’s militia as saying.

According to the spokesman, the fire was conducted from mortars.

China's poverty reduction efforts exemplary, UN seminar participants say

ROME, May 18 (Xinhua): China's poverty reduction approach can serve as a useful model for developing countries around the world, United Nations (UN) experts and Chinese officials said at a seminar on poverty reduction.

The seminar took place at the third International Seminar on Global Poverty Reduction Partnerships held here during the 2019 International Cooperation Expo earlier this week.
