Narendra Modi in Time Magzine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2020

Delhi; 24 Sep 2020 (UMMN): Indian PM Narendra Modi has made it to the Time Magzine’s list of 100 Most Influential People of 2020 along with US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping,

India, Australia conduct naval exercise in Indian Ocean

New Delhi, Sep 23 (PTI) The Indian and Australian navies on Wednesday began a two-day mega exercise in the Indian Ocean region that featured a range of complex naval manoeuvres, anti-aircraft drills and helicopter operations, officials said.

It is the first major military exercise by India and Australia after they elevated their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership and signed a landmark deal for reciprocal access to military bases for logistics support in June.

India: Union MoS Railways BJP MP Suresh Angadi dies of coronavirus

New Delhi, Sep 23 (PTI) Minister of State for Railways and Karnataka BJP MP Suresh Angadi passed away on Wednesday, days after he tested positive for COVID-19.

The 65-year-old passed away at around 8 pm at the AIIMS trauma centre which has been converted into a dedicated COVID-19 facility, sources at the hospital said.

India: Court extends freelance journalist Rajeev Sharma's custody in espionage case

New Delhi, Sep 21 (PTI) A Delhi court Monday extended by seven days the custodial interrogation of freelance journalist Rajeev Sharma, arrested in an espionage case under the Official Secrets Act.

Police said Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Pawan Singh Rajawat also extended the custody of two of his associates -- a Chinese woman and a Nepalese man by seven days.

The accused were produced before the court on expiry of their earlier police custody and the agency sought their further remand.

India: Gold, silver tumble on weak global trend

New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) Gold prices tumbled Rs 672 to Rs 51,328 per 10 gram in the national capital on Tuesday on a weak global trend, according to HDFC Securities.

The yellow metal had closed at Rs 52,000 per 10 gram in the previous trading session.

Silver also witnessed massive selloff with prices tanking Rs 5,781 to Rs 61,606 per kilogram from Rs 67,387 per kilogram in the previous trade.

Israel, India sign MoU to collaborate in tech innovation

New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) An agreement was signed on Tuesday between Israel's Start-Up Nation Central and India's International Centre for Entrepreneurship and Technology (iCreate) to initiate a bilateral program to accelerate innovation and technology cooperation.

In a statement, the Israeli embassy said the aim of this program is to bring together Israeli and Indian entrepreneurs and start-ups to collaborate on innovative projects.

The MoU was signed by Eugene Kandel, CEO of Start-Up Nation Central from Jerusalem and Anupam Jalote, CEO of iCreate from Ahmedabad.

India: Rajya Sabha bids farewell to 11 retiring members

New Delhi, Sep 23 (PTI) Rajya Sabha on Wednesday bid farewell to 11 of its members who will retire in November this year.

When the House met, Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu mentioned that 11 MPs from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand will be retiring in November.

They include Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav, BSP's Veer Singh and Raj Babbar of Congress.

India: Parliament passes 3 key labour reform bills

New Delhi, Sep 23 (PTI) Parliament on Wednesday approved three key labour reform bills that will remove impediments for winding up of companies and allow firing of staff without government permission in firms with up to 300 workers.

Amid boycott by opposition parties including Congress and Left over suspension of eight MPs, Rajya Sabha passed by voice vote the three remaining labour codes on industrial relations, social security and occupational safety.
