Indian and Bangladeshi navies hold military drill

New Delhi, Oct 3 (PTI) The navies of India and Bangladesh held a mega military exercise in the Bay of Bengal on Saturday in sync with their growing operational coordination, officials said.

A variety of maritime drills and operations were conducted as part of the annual 'Bongosagar' exercise, they said.

India: TPG to invest Rs 1837.5 crore in Reliance Retail

New Delhi, Oct 3 (PTI) Global alternative asset firm TPG will invest Rs 1,837.5 crore to buy 0.41 per cent stake in Reliance Retail Ventures Limited (RRVL), the retail arm of Reliance Industries, a statement by the Indian firm said on Saturday.

This investment values Reliance Retail at a pre-money equity value of Rs 4.285 lakh crore.

TPG's investment will translate into a 0.41 per cent equity stake in RRVL on a fully diluted basis, it said.

Onus on Pakistan to create normal ties: India

New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) India on Thursday said it desires to have normal neighbourly relations with Pakistan in an atmosphere free of terror, hostility and violence and the onus is on Islamabad to create such an environment.

External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said India's efforts to step up engagement with the countries of the region are reflection of its 'Neighbourhood First policy'.

India: Rahul to now hold tractor rallies from Oct 4-6

Chandigarh, Oct 2 (PTI) In a slight change in his programme, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will now hold tractor rallies in Punjab and Haryana from October 4-6 to protest against the contentious new farm laws.

Earlier, Gandhi was scheduled to hold tractor rallies from October 3-5, the party had said. However, the rest of his itinerary will remain the same.

India: Bhushan files fresh plea in SC seeking review of punishment in contempt case

New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) Activist-lawyer Prashant Bhushan moved the Supreme Court on Thursday seeking review of the August 31 sentencing order to either pay nominal fine of Re 1 or face a three-month jail term and debarment from law practice for three years in the contempt case for his two tweets against the judiciary.

Bhushan, who has already deposited Re 1 as fine with the apex court's registry on September 14, has filed two separate review petitions in the contempt case.

India: Custom-made B777 plane for VVIP travel arrives

New Delhi, Oct 1 (PTI) A custom-made B777 aircraft, which will be used to fly the president, vice president and prime minister, has arrived in Delhi from the US on Thursday, said government officials.

The plane was scheduled to be delivered by aircraft manufacturer Boeing to Air India in July but its delivery was delayed twice - once in July for a few weeks due to COVID-19 pandemic and then in August for a few weeks due to technical reasons - the officials noted.

India: Govt to borrow Rs 4.34 lakh cr in second half of 2020-21

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) The Finance Ministry on Wednesday said the government will borrow Rs 4.34 lakh crore in the second half of the current fiscal to meet its expenditure requirement amid COVID-19 crisis afflicting the country's economy.

With this, the government will stick to the revised borrowing target for the current fiscal. The Centre had revised the borrowing target to Rs 12 lakh crore in May against Rs 7.8 lakh crore approved in the Budget 2020-21.

India: BJP appoints ex-Maha CM Fadnavis as Bihar poll in-charge

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) The BJP on Wednesday appointed former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis as its in-charge for the Bihar assembly elections, the party said in a statement.

The announcement came on a day party president J P Nadda is holding talks with state BJP leaders here to discuss the three-phase polls to the 243-member state assembly, including seat-sharing arrangements with allies like the JD(U) and the LJP.

The LJP has been blowing hot and cold over the issue as it is said to be unhappy over the offer being made to it by the BJP.

India: Eight core industries output contracts 8.5% in Aug

New Delhi, Sep 30 (PTI) Contracting for the sixth consecutive month, the output of eight core infrastructure sectors dropped by 8.5 per cent in August, mainly due to decline in production of steel, refinery products and cement.

The production of eight core sectors had contracted 0.2 per cent in August 2019, showed data released by the Commerce and Industry Ministry on Wednesday.

Barring coal and fertiliser, all sectors -- crude oil, natural gas, refinery products, steel, cement and electricity -- recorded negative growth in August.
