India: Dengue cases count in Delhi cross 1K-mark

New Delhi, Dec 14 (PTI) Over 1,000 dengue cases have been recorded in the national capital this year till date, with 338 of those being reported in November, according to official data.

The number of cases of dengue this year has been lower compared to the situation in previous years.

According to data shared on Monday by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), the nodal agency that tabulates data on vector-borne diseases for the city, 1,030 cases of dengue has been recorded in Delhi till December 12.

India: Agitating farmers begin day-long fast, to intensify protest against farm laws

New Delhi, Dec 14 (PTI) Farmer leaders on Monday started their day-long hunger strike against the Centre's new farm laws and said protests will be held at all district headquarters later in the day, even as more people are expected to join ongoing agitation at Delhi border points.

Farmer leader Baldev Singh said, "Representatives of farmer unions have started their hunger strike at Singhu Border."

India: Shun arrogance and scrap farm laws: Kejriwal to Centre

New Delhi, Dec 13 (PTI) Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday asked the BJP-ruled Centre to shun "arrogance" and scrap three farm laws as demanded by agitating farmers, and bring a Bill to guarantee minimum support price (MSP) for agricultural produce.

Kejriwal said he will hold one-day fast on Monday in response to a call given by the agitating farmers and urged his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers as well as the people of the country to join in.

India: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind extends support to farmers' protest

New Delhi, Dec 12 (PTI) The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Saturday extended its support to the ongoing farmers' protest against the three newly elected agriculture-related legislations, and alleged the country's farming laws are being changed to favour multinationals and corporates.

The JIH supports the ongoing protest by farmers against the new farm laws enacted by the Centre, the Islamic body's vice president Mohammad Saleem Engineer told a press conference.

Israel and Bhutan establish diplomatic ties

New Delhi, Dec 12 (PTI) Israel and Bhutan established formal diplomatic relations on Saturday with both countries asserting that the development would open the path to greater cooperation, particularly in the sectors of technology, agriculture and water management.

The notes verbale on the establishment of diplomatic relations were exchanged between Bhutanese envoy to India Major General Vetsop Namgyel and Israeli Ambassador to India Ron Malka at the Israeli Embassy here.

India: Security at Delhi borders increased after farmers' announcement to intensify stir

New Delhi, Dec 12 (PTI) The Delhi Police has increased security arrangements at the city's border points following the announcement by agitating farmers to block the Jaipur-Delhi and the Delhi-Agra Expressways on Saturday to further intensify their protest against the Centre's new agri laws.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting at various areas on Delhi's borders for the last 16 days and demanding that the legislations be withdrawn.

India: Bhartiya Kisan Union Bhanu moves SC against agri laws

New Delhi, Dec 11 (PTI) Bhartiya Kisan Union Bhanu, a farmers association, has moved the Supreme Court seeking to intervene as a party in a pending plea challenging the constitutional validity of the newly enacted three contentious farm laws.

A bench headed by Chief Justice Justice S A Bobde, on October 12, had issued a notice to the Centre by agreeing to test the validity of the laws on the pleas filed by RJD lawmaker from Rajya Sabha, Manoj Jha and DMK Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu, Tiruchi Siva, and one by Rakesh Vaishnav of Chhattisgarh Kisan Congress.

Indian Doctors stage protests against Centre's policy

Kolkata, Dec 11 (PTI) Doctors of different hospitals across West Bengal Friday staged protests against the Centres move to allow postgraduate practitioners of Ayurveda to be trained in performing surgical procedures.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has demanded withdrawal of the notification.

Doctors in various hospitals in the city and in Murshidabad, Nadia, Malda, Uttar Dinajpur, North and South 24 Parganas districts wore black bands but carried on normal duties.

United Airlines starts Delhi-Chicago daily flights

New Delhi, Dec 12 (PTI) United Airlines inaugurated on Saturday a daily non-stop flight between Delhi and Chicago, according to a company statement.

The airline will operate a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft between the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi and its hometown hub at the O'Hare International Airport in Chicago.

With the introduction of the service, United will operate four daily nonstop flights from India.
