USA Official: Meadows had been warned of possible 1/6 violence

WASHINGTON (AP) — A former White House official told the House committee investigating the Capitol riot that President Donald Trump’s chief of staff, Mark Meadows, had been advised of intelligence reports showing the potential for violence, according to just-released transcripts.

Cassidy Hutchinson, a special assistant in the Trump White House, told the committee “there were concerns brought forward” to Meadows before the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, but it was unclear what Meadows did with that information.

First Commercial Flight In Six Years To Depart Sanaa On Sunday: UN

UNITED NATIONS, Apr 22 (NNN-YPA) – The United Nations welcomes the first commercial flight scheduled out of Sanaa airport in six years, as an essential step in the two-month truce, a UN spokesman said, yesterday.

The flight to Amman, Jordan, is scheduled to take off on Sunday, said Stephane Dujarric, chief spokesman for UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres. “The UN thanks the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan for its support, in bringing about this achievement, and the Government of Yemen for its constructive role in making this happen.”

Shelter-in-place order lifted at U.S. UC Berkeley after threat investigation

SAN FRANCISCO, April 21 (Xinhua) -- A shelter-in-place order at UC Berkeley, in the western U.S. state of California, lasting more than four hours as police investigated a "credible campus-wide threat," was lifted Thursday afternoon.

"ALL CLEAR - the situation has been resolved. Thank you for your patience," UC Berkeley police said on Twitter, adding that based on investigation, it was "appropriate to end the shelter in place."

Police said the buildings would remain locked and in-person classes would still be canceled for the rest of the day.

Emerging markets could be in difficult situation amid U.S. Fed tightening, IMF official warns

WASHINGTON, April 21 (Xinhua) -- If the U.S. Federal Reserve tightens  its monetary policy faster than expected, emerging markets - especially those with high debt levels - could be in a difficult situation, an International Monetary Fund (IMF) official has said.

"So there is a concern that emerging market economies that have borrowed heavily in dollars, and especially on short maturity, could find themselves in a difficult position," Malhar Nabar, division chief at the IMF's Research Department, told Xinhua in a virtual interview earlier this week.

UN chief calls for ambitious action on climate disruption, nature loss, pollution

UNITED NATIONS, April 21 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Thursday that the triple crisis of climate disruption, nature loss and pollution requires ambitious action.

"The Earth is facing a triple planetary crisis. Climate disruption. Nature and biodiversity loss. Pollution and waste. This triple crisis is threatening the well-being and survival of millions of people around the world," the top UN official said in his message for the International Mother Earth Day, which falls on April 22 annually.

USA: Southwest fire crews brace for return of dangerous winds

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Firefighters are bracing for the return of ferocious winds in the Southwest after a brief reprieve allowed them to attack flames from the air for the first time in days as a half-dozen large wildfires continue to grow in Arizona and New Mexico.

More than 500 firefighters were manning fire lines in the two states and more help was on the way Friday when the largest type of management team is scheduled to take command of resources at one of the biggest, most dangerous fires near Flagstaff, Arizona.
