UN to vote on choking off small arms from gangs in Haiti

UNITED NATIONS (AP) — The U.N. Security Council scheduled a vote Friday on a resolution that calls on all countries to stop the transfer of small arms, light weapons and ammunition to any party supporting gang violence and criminal activity in Haiti, which has seen an upsurge in bloodshed and kidnappings.

The draft by the United States and Mexico does not include an arms embargo as China sought. Other council members said an embargo would be unenforceable.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Cariol Horne started her morning outside the Tops Friendly Market in Buffalo, placing white roses at a colorful memorial to the 10 Black people slain there two months ago by a white gunman.

Across the fenced-off parking lot, the supermarket chain’s president and employees were preparing to lead media on a preview of the refurbished store Thursday, a day ahead of its reopening to the public.

Russia-Ukraine conflict: At UN, dozens of nations call on Russia to end war in Ukraine

UNITED NATIONS, July 14 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Dozens of countries from around the world called on Russia to halt the war in Ukraine.

They included the United States, member of the European Union, and countries in Asia.

In a statement these 40-odd countries said they support Ukraine’s proceedings before the International Court of Justice seeking “to establish that Russia has no lawful basis to take military action in Ukraine on the basis of unsubstantiated allegations of genocide.”

US regulators clear way for more monkeypox vaccine shipments

WASHINGTON (AP) — Thousands more doses of monkeypox vaccine are expected to soon begin shipping to the U.S. after federal health officials said they had completed an inspection of the overseas plant where they were manufactured.

The update from the Food and Drug Administration comes amid soaring demand for the two-dose vaccine as thousands of people in New York City, California and other parts of the U.S. await a chance to get the shot.

USA: Crews still searching for 3 people after Virginia flooding

GRUNDY, Va. (AP) — Authorities in a remote corner of southwest Virginia have located all but three of the 44 people who were reported unaccounted for after devastating flooding washed out roadways and damaged more than 100 homes.

Buchanan County Sheriff John McClanahan said Thursday that crews from state and local agencies worked throughout the night to locate and reunite residents with their loved ones. He said there are no reports of injuries or deaths.
