ISLAMABAD, Apr 2 (NNN-APP) – Pakistan’s inflation, as measured by the consumer price index (CPI), increased to 35.4 percent in Mar, as compared to the same month a year ago, official statistics showed, yesterday.

In Mar, 2022, inflation was recorded at 12.7 percent, Muhammad Mazhar, an official from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), said.

On a month-on-month basis, the CPI increased 3.7 percent in Mar, as compared to an increase of 4.3 percent in Feb, according to the PBS.

ISLAMABAD, Apr 2 (NNN-APP) – Four people were killed, when the roof of a house collapsed, in Chaman district of Pakistan’s south-western Balochistan province, police said, yesterday.

The incident took place early yesterday morning, in Chaman’s Bypass Road area, killing four members of a family, including children, police officials in the area told local media.

Islamabad, Apr 1 (PTI) After a three-year hiatus, Pakistan and China are set to resume trade from Monday through the Khunjerab Pass - the only land route between the two all-weather allies, a media report said on Saturday.

The Khunjerab Pass was closed in November 2019 to contain the transmission of the COVID-19 virus between the two countries.

ISLAMABAD (AP) — A militant attack from across the border with Iran left four Pakistani soldiers dead Saturday in southwestern Baluchistan province, the army said.

The soldiers were part of a routine border patrol operating along the Pakistan-Iran border when the militants struck in the Jalgai sector of Kech district, the military said in a statement.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

Karachi, Mar 31 (PTI) At least 11 people, including women and children, were killed and several others injured in a deadly stampede at a Ramzan food distribution centre in Pakistan's port city of Karachi on Friday, officials said.

The stampede took place after some people unknowingly stepped on a live wire where food was being distributed, leading to the tragedy.

Soon, people started pushing each other, due to which some even fell into a nearby drain, police said.

Lahore, Mar 31 (PTI) In a setback to the Pakistan Army, the Lahore High Court on Friday suspended handing over more than 45,000 acres of state land on a 30-year lease to the military in the Punjab province.

Punjab’s caretaker government last month allotted 45,266 acres of state land on lease to the Pakistan Army in three districts -- Khushab, Bhakar and Sahiwal -- of Punjab province for the "corporate agriculture farming" on the latter’s "request".

PESHAWAR, Pakistan (AP) — Taliban militants in a pair of attacks killed four police officers by targeting a police vehicle with a roadside bomb and wounded six in an attack on a police station in northwest Pakistan early Thursday, police and the insurgents said.

The bomb killed four officers in a police vehicle carrying reinforcements sent to respond to the attack on a police station in Lakki Marwat, a town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province bordering Afghanistan. Six officers were wounded in the attack at the police station.

ISLAMABAD, Mar 29 (APP): Pakistan on Wednesday said that its foreign policy was centered on peace, stability and economic development.

Addressing the 18th Meeting of Secretaries of Security Council of SCO Member States through zoom link, Secretary National Security Division Engineer Aamir Hassan, who headed the Pakistan delegation, reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the objectives of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

ISLAMABAD, Mar 29 (APP): The New Democratic Party (NDP) of Canada has called on the Canadian government to boycott the G20 events in Kashmir and Chandigarh, Punjab, and ban Bharatiya Janata Party leaders and officials from traveling to Canada for abusing minorities and hurling threats against Canadian lawmakers.

The demand was supported by the World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO), according to media reports.
