New Delhi, Sep 4 (PTI) Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra Tuesday sent a letter to the Central government recommending Justice Ranjan Gogoi as his successor.

Justice Gogoi will be sworn in as the next CJI on October 3.

The CJI has written to the Ministry of Law and Justice endorsing and recommending the name of Justice Gogoi, senior-most judge, as the next CJI.

New Delhi, Sep 2; GANASHAKTI :  Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the RSS of increasing violence against Scheduled Caste persons, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Sunday said their 'main agenda is to implement Manuwadi rule'.

"The main agenda of the BJP and RSS is to implement Manuwadi rule where Dalits are treated as sub-humans", the CPI(M) said in a tweet.

Muzaffarnagar, Sep 2; PTI: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly raped by two men, including the president of BKU youth wing of Shamli, in a hotel in Haridwar, police said Sunday.

According to a complaint lodged by the victim, she was brought to the hotel on the pretext of being provided treatment for her father, Circle Officer Ashok Kumar said.

She alleged that she was brought in a car to the place and was raped by district Bharatiya Kisan Union youth wing chief Vinod Nirwal and his friend Zahid Hasa, the CO said.

Raipur, Sep 2; PTI : Four naxals, including a woman, were killed Sunday in an encounter with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Narayanpur district, around 350 kilometers from here, police said.

The gunfight took place at around 2:30 pm in the Gumiyabeda village forest when a team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) was out on an anti-Maoist operation, Narayanpur Superintendent of Police Jitendra Shukla told PTI.

The ultras fled the spot and entered the dense forest after a brief exchange of fire, he said.

Islamabad, Sep 2 (PTI) Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has roped in some renowned foreign economists in the newly-constituted economic advisory panel to provide the best possible professional advice to his cash-strapped government on prudent economic policies, media reported on Sunday.

The immediate challenge for the Khan-led government is to arrange finances to fill about a USD 10 billion gap that is arising due to higher outflows than estimated inflows.

New Delhi, Sep 3 (PTI) Over 1,400 people, including 488 in Kerala, have lost their lives due to rains, floods and landslides in 10 states so far in the monsoon season, the Home Ministry said Monday.

According to the ministry's National Emergency Response Centre (NERC), 488 people have died in Kerala and 54.11 lakh in 14 districts have been severely hit by rains and floods, the worst in a century.

As many as 14.52 lakh flood-displaced people are living in relief camps across the state.

Telecom Department of Uttar Pradesh Police has received more than 81,000 job applications for 62 peon vacancies. Applicants include about 50,000 graduates, 28,000 post graduates and 3,700 PhDs.

According to a report in India Today, the minimum eligibility for peon post in UP police is class 5 pass (primary school), and the starting salary is Rs 20,000. But the huge number of applicants and their qualifications had the department puzzled, resulting postponement of the recruitment process.

Lucknow; A man named Ramesh requested authorities to put him in jail. He attached his ‘kundali’ with his application.

According to Punjab Kesari, Ramesh lodged an application with the District Magistrate requesting to be jailed for a day. District Magistrate approved his application, and Ramesh was jailed for a day.

Satna; An eighty year old man Chandrapal Singh Bhadauria raped a three year old girl, living next door in Dinapur village, who called him dada (grand father).

According to Punjab Kesary, Chandrapal took the girl to his place and raped her. Girl was found by her grand mother.

Chandrapal is alleged to have raped his daughter-in-law too.
