08 Jan 2022; MEMO: The UN mission in Sudan today launched a UN-facilitated intra-Sudanese political process in an effort to salve the country's transition to democracy, Anadolu Agency reports.

Volker Perthes, the head of the UN Integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan (UNITAMS), said the "process will be inclusive."

KHARTOUM, Jan 5 (NNN-AGENCIES) — Sudanese security forces fired tear gas at anti-coup protesters in Khartoum chanting slogans against the military days after the resignation of the country’s civilian premier, witnesses said.

Protesters on Tuesday shouted “No, no to military rule” and called for the disbandment of Sudan’s ruling council headed by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, who led an Oct 25 coup that derailed a transition to civilian rule.

In a televised address, Abdalla Hamdok admitted that the partnership between the military and the civilian leadership had failed to lead to the transition and establishment of the basis for civilian rule and democratic transformation.

01 Jan 2022; MEMO: The ongoing demonstrations in Sudan are a "waste and drain" that will not lead the country to a political solution, an official said on Friday, reported by Anadolu News Agency.

KHARTOUM, Dec 31 (NNN-Xinhua) — At least three people were killed in demonstrations in Sudan’s Omdurman city on Thursday, said the Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors (CCSD), a non-governmental organization.

“Three people died in the processions in Omdurman by the bullets from the coup forces and their (allied) militias,” the CCSD said on its Facebook account.

“The authority is practising the most heinous violations against our people, and the chases continue in the neighborhoods with live bullets being fired,” it added.

KHARTOUM, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- Mass protests started in the Sudanese capital Khartoum and other cities on Thursday to demand civilian rule.

According to eyewitnesses, various protests headed to assemble at Sharwani bus station, to march to the Republican Palace.

Hundreds of army soldiers have been deployed at the entrances to the bridges linking the three major cities of Khartoum, Omdurman, and Bahri, most parts of which were closed by the authorities before the start of the demonstrations, said eyewitnesses.

25 Dec 2021; MEMO: Eyewitnesses said that internet services were disrupted in the Sudanese capital Khartoum in early hours of Saturday morning, just before demonstrations called by Sudanese forces for a civilian government.

Sudanese forces and groups opposing to the existing authority began mobilising for broad public participation in new demonstrations on Saturday, calling for the establishment of a full civil authority.

24 Dec 2021; MEMO: The US Embassy in Sudan on Friday advised its nationals to avoid areas expected to witness protests on Saturday, Anadolu Agency reported.

"Demonstrations are expected to take place on December 25 in Khartoum and potentially in other states," the embassy said in a circular posted on Twitter.

It encouraged personnel and US nationals to "avoid non-essential travel, avoid crowds and demonstration, and to exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or protests."
