Putin arrives in Minsk to attend European Games closing ceremony

MINSK, June 30. /TASS/: Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in the Belarusian capital of Minsk on Sunday to attend the closing ceremony of the Second European Games.

The Russian president was invited to take part in the ceremony on June 25 by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

India: Asian Golf winner Rashid Khan banned from DGC

New Delhi, Jun 27 (PTI) Banned from the Delhi Golf Club, former Asian Games silver-medallist Rashid Khan and his colleagues have been forced to practice at a wasteland on the outskirts of the capital.

A two-time Asian Tour winner, Rashid has been banned by the DGC along with a group of golfers from practising at the course since last January due to disciplinary issues.

To restore his playing rights, Rashid recently handed over a letter to DGC committee member Amit Luthra on June 3, but he is still waiting for a response from the club.

Italy to host 2026 Winter Olympics

25 June 2019; DW: Milan has won the right to host the 2026 Winter Olympics after an International Olympic Committee vote. The Swedish city of Stockholm lost out in the final round of voting in a process considered to have been as much about finance as the sport itself.

"It's a victory for Italy, for the future and for sports," Italian Interior Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini said in a statement. "With the Winter Olympics, we will prove to the world our strengths and our skills."

Preliminary dates set for 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics

LAUSANNE, June 24. /TASS/: According to a preliminary plan, the 2026 Winter Olympic Games will be held on February 6-22, and Paralympic Games - on March 6-15, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said on Monday.

The vote to determine the host of the 2026 Winter Olympics was held at the 134th session of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Lausanne earlier on Monday. The Italian cities of Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo were chosen as the hosts for the 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics.

Russian athletes win 21 medals on Day 2 of 2019 European Games in Minsk

MINSK, June 24. /TASS/: The Russian national team has reinforced its top position in the overall medals standings after Day 2 of the 2019 European Games in the Belarusian capital of Minsk having won 21 more medals on Sunday.

Thirty-eight sets of medals were contested on June 23 and the athletes of the Russian national team grabbed ten gold, five silver and six bronze medals.

After two days of the 2019 European Games’ competitions, the Russian team is in the lead packing 19 gold, 10 silver and 10 bronze medals.

Olympic Day karate championship

LAHORE, Jun 21 (APP): Lahore District Karate Association is organising the ‘Olympic Day 2019’ Lahore District Team Kumite Karate Championship here on June 23 at the Punjab College.

LDKA is holding the event in collaboration with Pakistan Karate Association. All the affiliated clubs of Lahore district will participate in the competition. Each team will consist of five players and tournament will be played on knock-out system.

The championship will start at 9am and the closing ceremony will be held at 4pm.

Minsk 2019 European Games officially declared open

MINSK, June 22. /TASS/: Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has officially declared the Minsk 2019 European Games open.

The opening ceremony took place at the Dynamo National Olympic Stadium and was attended by many high-ranking state officials, including Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, Moldovan President Igor Dodon, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and State Secretary of the Union State of Russia and Belarus Grigory Rapota.

The honor of lighting the flame of the Games was bestowed on seven leading Belarusian athletes.

Russia to play 2020 Euro Cup qualifier against Scotland

MOSCOW, June 17. /TASS/: The Russian national football team will play its 2020 UEFA Euro Cup group stage qualifying match against the team from Scotland in October at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, the press service of the Russian Football Union (RFU) announced on Monday.

The qualifier between the Russian and Scottish national teams at the 81,000-seat capacity stadium, which hosted matches of the 2018 FIFA World Cup, is scheduled to kick off at 9:45 p.m. Moscow time on October 10.

Punjab Open Snooker Championship gets under way

LAHORE, Jun 17 (APP): Sports Board Punjab (SBP) Director General Nadeem Sarwar inaugurated the Punjab Inter-Division (Open) Snooker Championship by playing a shot here at Nishtar Park Sports Complex Gymnasium Hall on Monday.

The SBP is organising the two-day championship with the collaboration of the Punjab Snooker Association. Teams from all nine divisions of Punjab province are taking part in the championship.

SBP Director General Nadeem Sarwar was chief guest on the opening day.

2022 Hangzhou Asian Games submission of mascot proposals to continue till July 15

BEIJING, June 17 (APP): The organizing committee for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games and Asian Para Games will continue to accept submission of proposals for the design of official mascot till July 15.

The organizing committee for the games launched a campaign to solicit ideas for official mascots starting from April 16, running for three months until July 15.

The result will be announced by the end of 2019, Secretary of Hangzhou Municipal Committee Zhou Jiangyoung said on Monday.
