Turkish company signs deal to export training aircraft to Pakistan

04 October 2023; MEMO: A Turkish company has signed an agreement to supply a Pakistani company with training and general-purpose aircraft, the Troy T400.

Turkish aircraft manufacturer, UÇAKSAN, explained in a statement yesterday that it has agreed with the Pakistani company Defence & Strategic Ventures to supply it with five Troy T400 aircraft.

Ankara bomb attackers come from Syria: Turkish FM

ANKARA, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan revealed on Wednesday that the two assailants responsible for a recent suicide bomb attack in the capital city of Ankara hailed from Syria.

Telling a press conference in Ankara, the minister said that "it has become clear that the two terrorists came from Syria and received training here," vowing "extremely clear" responses to the attack.

Ancient trident harpoon unearthed in Türkiye

ISTANBUL, Oct. 4 (Xinhua) -- An ancient trident harpoon, estimated to be 1,700-1,800 years old, has been discovered during an ongoing archaeological excavation in northwestern Türkiye, local media reported Wednesday.

This iron harpoon, designed for fishing in ancient times, was found at an archaeological site in the village of Assos in Canakkale province, according to the state-run Anadolu agency.

Turkish intelligence kills senior YPG member in N. Syria

ANKARA, Oct. 2 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye's National Intelligence Organization has killed a senior member of the Syrian Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) during an operation in northern Syrian Qamishli city, the Turkish media reported Monday.

The killed senior YPG member was identified as Muzdelif Taskin, who was accused of being the mastermind behind the 2007 terror attack in the Daglica village of the southeastern Hakkari province, killing 12 soldiers and injuring 16 others, according to the Turkish media.

Turkey strikes suspected Kurdish militant targets in northern Iraq after suicide attack in Ankara

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Turkish warplanes carried out airstrikes on suspected Kurdish militant targets in northern Iraq on Sunday following a suicide attack on a government building in the Turkish capital, Turkey’s defense ministry announced.

Some 20 targets of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, were “destroyed” in the latest aerial operation, including caves, shelters and depots, the ministry said, adding that a large number of PKK operatives were “neutralized” in the strikes.

Türkiye targets over 6-bln-USD defense exports in 2023: president

ISTANBUL, Sept. 29 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that Türkiye's defense export target is to exceed 6 billion U.S. dollars in 2023.

Speaking at a technology festival in the western province of Izmir, Erdogan said his country has been implementing 850 different defense projects.

"With our defense industry initiatives, our exports are increasing exponentially," Erdogan said, addressing the visitors at TEKNOFEST, Türkiye's biggest aviation, space, and technology fair.

Turkish police detain 12 suspects in raids against IS, HTS

ISTANBUL, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police detained at least 12 suspected members of the Islamic Stated (IS) and Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) in Istanbul, local media reported on Wednesday.

The state-run Anadolu news agency said the suspects have allegedly carried out activities in Istanbul on behalf of the IS and HTS.

Following technical and physical surveillance, Turkish anti-terror teams detected the suspects' identities and launched simultaneous raids on 14 addresses across the city Wednesday, it added.
