KHARTOUM, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- After a full year of negotiations, the Sudanese government and armed groups on Saturday signed a final peace deal in South Sudan's capital Juba to end armed conflicts.

The signing ceremony, which was broadcast live by Sudan's official TV, was attended by South Sudan's President Salva Kiir, Chairman of Sudan's Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and Sudan's Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok.

02 Oct 2020; MEMO: Sudan’s Islamic governmental authority yesterday announced its opposition to Khartoum normalising ties with Israel.

Local media reported that an Islamic Fatwa –  a legal opinion based on Islamic law – was issued amid imminent reports that the two countries are due to sign agreements to establish normal relations, according to official sources.

30 Sep 2020; MEMO: The Sudanese army said its troops repelled an attack by the Sudan Liberation Army – Abdul Wahid Mohamed Al-Nur (SLA-AW) in South Darfur which did not sign the peace agreement concluded in August between Khartoum and a majority of the rebel groups in the area.

21 Sep 2020; MEMO: The military leaders in Sudan’s Sovereign Council, which comprises both civilians and military officers, are interested in normalising the country’s relations with Israel in return for the lifting of US sanctions on the country and removing it from the list states that sponsor terrorists, Arabi21 reported.

KHARTOUM, Sept 17 (NNN-AFRICANEWS) –Sudan has arrested 41 people and seized a large amount of explosives big enough to blow up the capital Khartoum, authorities said.

The materials included amonium nitrate, the same chemical that caused a deadly explosion in Lebanon on Aug 4.

“Forty-one people were arrested in possession of explosives, enough to destroy (the capital) Khartoum,” said public prosecutor Tagelsir al-Hebr in a press conference, adding that his office had opened an investigation.

05 Sep 2020; MEMO: The Sudanese government and the People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM) have agreed on Friday to resume negotiations in Juba after a two-week suspension. This came in a statement issued by the media office of the Council of Ministers and signed by both Prime Minister Hamdok and SPLM leader Abdulaziz Al-Hilu, according to Anadolu Agency.

Cairo, Sep 5 (AP/PTI) Sudanese authorities declared their country a natural disaster area and imposed a three-month state of emergency across the country after rising floodwaters and heavy rainfall killed around 100 people and inundated over 100,000 houses since late July.

The announcement was made late Friday following a meeting of the country's Defense and Security Council which is headed by a top government official, Gen. Abdel-Fattah Burhan.
