India: 8 Indonesians arrested for visa violations in TN

Ramanathapuram (TN), Apr 9 (PTI) Eight Indonesians were arrested here on Thursday for alleged visa violations after they participated in various religious meetings in the country, police here said.

A local person who facilitated their stay has also been picked up, even as the arrested Indonesian nationals have been quarantined and their blood samples taken for coronavirus tests, police added.

The foreigners had arrived on March 22 and attended various religious meetings here and in Delhi.

India: BJP coalition partner Dy CM of Manipur Yumnam Joykumar stripped of portfolios

Imphal, Apr 9 (PTI) Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Yumnam Joykumar Singh was stripped of his portfolios on Thursday.

The Governor of Manipur on the advice of Chief Minister N Biren Singh reallocated the portfolios, according to an order issued by chief secretary J Suresh Babu.

India: Two doctors among 14 test coronavirus positive in Bhopal

Bhopal, Apr 10 (PTI) Fourteen more persons, including two women doctors, tested positive for coronavirus in Bhopal on Friday, taking the number of COVID-19 patients in the state capital to 112 and overall tally in Madhya Pradesh to 440, a health official said.

Test reports of these persons came on Friday morning and they were found to be infected with the viral disease, he said.

Efforts were on to quarantine them and start their treatment, the official said.

India: 10 killed in lightning strikes in AP

Amaravati(AP), Apr 10 (PTI) As many as 10 people have been killed in lightning strikes in three districts of Andhra Pradesh, the State Disaster Management Authority said here on Friday.

In a release, the SDMA said seven people were killed in lightning strikes in five mandals of SPS Nellore district, two in Guntur and one in Prakasam district on Thursday.

India: Mamata deprecates communal politics over Nizamuddin event

Kolkata, April 8 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday slammed those doing "communal politics" over the Tablighi Jamaat event in New Delhis Nizamuddin and asked them to eschew it at a time of national crisis.

Thousands of people across the country and abroad had attended the religious event between March 13 and 15 after the Delhi government had promulgated orders prohibiting gatherings of more than 200 people. Many of the attendees later tested positive for COVID-19 and several of them died.

India: 20 coronavirus hotspots in Delhi sealed: Sisodia

New Delhi, Apr 8 (PTI) The Delhi government has sealed 20 COVID-19 hotspots in the national capital to combat the spread of the novel virus, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia announced on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters after a high-level meeting, he said, "Nobody will be allowed to enter or exit from these areas."

India: 3-yr-old girl raped in J&K's Ramban

Banihal/Jammu, Apr 8 (PTI) A three-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her neighbour while she was playing outside her house in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir, a police officer said on Wednesday.

The accused, Pawan Singh (18), was arrested and a case under relevant sections of law including POCSO Act was registered against him, the official said.

India: Allow states to borrow from RBI, says Kerala Minister

Kochi, Apr 8 (PTI): Kerala Finance Minister T M Thomas Isaac on Wednesday flagged concern over high interest rate for market borrowing and urged the Centre to allow the states to directly borrow from the Reserve Bank.

In a Facebook post, Isaac said Kerala on Tuesday received the first tranche of Rs 6,000 crore through the market borrowing for the current fiscal.
