Bijapur, Apr 16 (PTI) A police personnel was killed by suspected Naxals in Chhattisgarh's insurgency-hit Bijapur district, police said on Thursday.

The body of assistant constable Ramesh Kursam, bearing injuries marks, was found on the outskirts of Farsegarh village on Thursday morning, a senior police official said.

NEW DELHI (AP) — Lavina D’Souza hasn’t been able to collect her government-supplied anti-HIV medication since the abrupt lockdown of India’s 1.3 billion people last month during the coronavirus outbreak.

Marooned in a small city away from her home in Mumbai, the medicine she needs to manage her disease has run out. The 43-year-old is afraid that her immune system will crash: “Any disease, the coronavirus or something else, I’ll fall sick faster.”

D’Souza said others also must be “suffering because of the coronavirus without getting infected by it.”

New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday urged the government to organise flights to bring back Indian workers stuck in the Middle East and desperate to return.

He said the workers are in deep distress there due to shutting of businesses in the Middle East due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Hyderabad, Apr 14 (PTI) A 24-year old migrant worker from Bihar allegedly committed suicide here reportedly upset over not being able to return home due to the coronavirus lockdown, police said on Tuesday.

The man, who belonged to Lakhisarai district, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in his rented room in Uppal area on Monday, they said.

Noida (UP), Apr 14 (PTI) An eight-year-old girl was allegedly raped in Greater Noida by a 14-year-old boy who lured her on the pretext of buying her sweets, police said on Tuesday.

The incident took place on Monday in Dankaur area of Greater Noida and the accused boy has been apprehended and sent to a juvenile correction facility, the police said.

New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) As the world grapples with coronavirus, researchers have found the presence of a different kind of coronavirus -- bat coronavirus (BtCoV) --in two bat species from Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Puducherry and Tamil Nadu, according to a study by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

There is no evidence or research to claim that these bat coronaviruses can cause disease in humans, said Dr Pragya D Yadav, Scientist at the National Institute of Virology (NIV), Pune and also the first author of study.

Mumbai, Apr 15 (PTI) An FIR has been registered against a television journalist over his report that trains would restart, which may have prompted gathering of migrants in suburban Bandra on Tuesday, a police official said.

The accused, Rahul Kulkarni, based in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra, has been detained and police are in the process of bringing him to Mumbai, he said.

Banda, Apr 15 (PTI) A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped by her cousin in Uttar Pradesh's Chitrkoot district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place under the Markundi police station area Tuesday afternoon when the girl was returning home after handing over lunch to her father who was working in agricultural field, a police officer said.

New Delhi, Apr 15 (PTI) All Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) security personnel who frisk passengers at airports will be provided personal protective equipment (PPE) suits once commercial flight operations resume in the country, a senior official said.

The force has procured about 500 pieces and is in the process of obtaining more.

Noida (UP), Apr 15 (PTI) Amid fears over the spread of coronavirus, a 25-year-old man was allegedly shot at by another person, following an argument that was triggered by his "coughing" during a game of ludo at Greater Noida, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place around 9 pm on Tuesday at a temple in Dayanagar village under the Jarcha police station limits, where four people, including the man who received gunshot injuries, were playing the board game, they added.
