India: Case against SP leader Abu Azmi, others over protest

Mumbai, May 29 (PTI) A case was registered on Friday against Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi and 45 others for violating lockdown norms during a protest in the city, a police official said.

Azmi, president of the Maharashtra unit of the Samajwadi Party, had had a heated argument with senior police inspector of Nagpada police station Shalini Sharma in the early hours of Thursday.

He had alleged that inspector Sharma misbehaved with him.

Delhi's COVID death toll jumps to 82 in last 24 hours

New Delhi, May 29 (PTI) Delhi's COVID-19 death tally has jumped by 82 in the last 24 hours, due to inclusion of 69 deaths that were reported late, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said on Friday.

He said 13 deaths occurred on Friday while the remaining 69 took place in the last 34 days and were reported late.

The total deaths due to COVID-19 in Delhi has mounted to 398 so far, Health Minister Satyendra Jain said.

KANPUR: Amidst the spread of the deadly coronavirus, there looms the raid of locust hoppers and pink-coloured swarms now.  The district administration has made necessary steps like spraying of chemicals and pesticides to save the crop from these flying insects. However, loud noise is still considered to its sudden attack. The farmers are fully aware of this traditional method.

One village farmer said: So far we were worried about the virus but the fear of locusts has worse than the corona. If the crop is destroyed it would be too difficult to survive.

Indian capital braces for locust attack

NEW DELHI, May 29 (NNN-Xinhua) — The local government in India’s capital Delhi issued an advisory on preventive measures to control a possible locust attack in its territory.

The advisory calls for organizing awareness programs for the public and farmers to prevent the probable attack of swarms of locusts in the national capital territory (NCT) of Delhi.

It said that since the swarms usually fly during the day and rest at night, they should not be allowed to rest.

India: Sambit Patra shows corona symptoms, hospitalised

Gurgaon; 28 May 2020 (UMM): BJP’s national spokes-person Sambit Patra showed symptoms of coronavirus, and has been hospitalised in a private hospital in Gurgaon on Thursday.

A source at Medanta hospital in Gurgaon said Patra was 'admitted in the morning and is stable'.

BJP leaders and many others posted their wishes for a speedy recovery of the party spokesperson, who is one of the most popular politicians among BJP supporters.

India: Downpours can only bring respite from hot weather

KANPUR: The real feel of Thursday's temperature remains 43° Celsius. The weather is hot and unbearable. Disturbed with the hot weather, the people are said to be awaiting downpours for respite within two or three days. They are thankful that power disruptions were not effecting long duration. The electricity cut does take place almost daily but people are coping with the short disruptions.

In the morning the sunshine mixed with the clouds gives the feeling of hotness which continues till the end of the evening time. 

India: 3 migrant workers found dead in UP on Shramik trains

Ballia/Kanpur (UP), May 27 (PTI) Three migrant workers on board special Shramik Special trains were found dead in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia and Kanpur while the fourth died in the hospital, officials said on Wednesday.

Police said one of the victims was 58-year-old Bhushan Singh, a resident of Bihar's Saran district.

He was found dead in the Surat-Hajipur Shramik special train in Ballia on Tuesday evening, SP Devendra Nath, said.

The body has been sent for a post-mortem, police said.
