India: 50-year-old widow raped in UP's Mahoba

Mahoba (UP), Jan 23 (PTI) A 50-year-old widow was allegedly raped and made pregnant by a man from her village in the City Kotwali police station area in this Uttar Pradesh district, police said on Saturday.

The woman, who got an FIR lodged on Friday, has alleged that the accused, Akhilesh Ahirwar, barged into her house on the night of December 7 last year and raped her, City Kotwali Station House Officer (SHO) Shashi Kumar Pandey said.

India: Farmers to hold protest rally over farm laws in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 23 (PTI) A large numbers of farmers left for Mumbai from Maharashtra's Nashik district on Saturday for a rally to demand repealing of the Centre's three new farm laws.

The rally organised by Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha will be held in Mumbai on January 25, a statement issued by the organisation said.

Modi interacted with actors Rudranil Ghosh, Indrani Halder and Prosenjit Chatterjee after the light and sound show on Netaji's life, industry sources said.

Delhi riots: Court grants bail to two persons

New Delhi, Jan 20 (PTI) A Delhi court has granted bail to two persons in a case related to the communal violence in north east Delhi in February last year.

Additional Sessions Judge Amitabh Rawat granted the relief to Shanu and Zarif on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 20,000 with one surety of like amount each in the case of burning of a local person's house in Jafrabad area during the riots.

The court allowed the bail pleas considering the period of incarceration of both the accused and on the ground of parity.

India: 'Tandav' case probe: UP Police team arrives in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 20 (PTI) A four-member team of Uttar Pradesh Police arrived in Mumbai on Wednesday to conduct a probe into a case registered in Lucknow against controversial web series "Tandav", an official said on Wednesday.

The UP Police team is likely to record statements of the makers and cast and crew of the Amazon Prime Video's series, which has been accused of hurting religious sentiments for its depiction of Hindu deities.

India: AAP volunteers to join Jan 26 farmers' tractor parade'

Chandigarh, Jan 19 (PTI) The Punjab unit of Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday said it would join farmers' tractor parade on January 26 in Delhi.

AAP state unit president Bhagwant Mann made the announcement while claiming that the ongoing farmers' protest has become the largest agitation in the world with the participation of such a large number of people in a peaceful manner.

Mann said his party volunteers from every village across the state would join the parade with tractors.

India: Delhi's air turns 'severe' again

New Delhi, Jan 19 (PTI) Delhi's air quality turned severe again on Tuesday due to low wind speed and high moisture levels, India Meteorological Department officials said.

The city's 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) was 404 on Tuesday. It was 372 on Monday and 347 the previous day.

Before that, Delhi's air quality remained in the severe zone for three consecutive days.

An AQI between zero and 50 is considered "good", 51 and 100 "satisfactory", 101 and 200 "moderate", 201 and 300 "poor", 301 and 400 "very poor", and 401 and 500 "severe".

India: 3.75 lakh youth got jobs in UP since 2017 claims the CM

Lucknow, Jan 19 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said 3.75 lakh youths were given jobs in the state in a transparent manner according to their merit since he took over in 2017.

"In the past three years and 10 months, jobs were given to over 3.75 lakh youths in the state. The recruitment was done in a transparent manner on their merit. There has not been any doubts and questions on the recruitment process adopted in UP," the CM said.
