India blocks BBC documentary on Modi from airing in India

MUMBAI, Jan 22 (Reuters) - India has blocked the airing of a BBC documentary which questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership during the 2002 Gujarat riots, saying that even sharing of any clips via social media is barred.

Directions to block the clips from being shared have been issued using emergency powers available to the government under the country's information technology rules, said Kanchan Gupta, an adviser to the government, on his Twitter handle on Saturday.

India: Airbus to win 235 single-aisle jet order under Air India relaunch -sources

DELHI/PARIS, Jan 20 (Reuters) - European planemaker Airbus (AIR.PA) is set to win an order for 235 single-aisle planes as part of a historic purchase of some 495 jets due to be announced by a resurgent Air India on Jan. 27, industry sources told Reuters.

The deal, roughly split with rival Boeing (BA.N), covers a total of 425 single-aisle jets including 235 Airbus A320neo-family planes as well as 190 Boeing 737 MAX airliners reported by Reuters last month, the sources said, asking not to be named.

Man posing as UAE Royal aide leaves India hotel with nearly $30k unpaid bill

18 Jan 2023; MEMO: A man is wanted by Indian police after posing as a UAE resident and staffer of the Royal family of Abu Dhabi and leaving a five-star hotel in Delhi without settling outstanding bills amounting to $28,330 (23 lakh rupees). According to reports, the accused identified as Mahamed Sharif also made off with silverware and a mother-of-pearl tray from the hotel room at the Leela Palace Hotel, where he had been staying for over four months.

Kanpur: On Wednesday, five people died due to heart attacks and three brain strokes.

For the first time in the season, it was seen that 102 patients were admitted to Cardiology.

According to the report of the control room, three patients reached dead in cardiology. Two died reportedly during treatment.

More than 100 patients have been admitted in the last 24 hours. Rakesh Ahirwar (76) of Shivala, M Ahluwalia (82) of Govind Nagar, and Ramu Lal Mishra (88) of Unnao died of a brain stroke.

Jndia: Another Himalayan vulture found at a forest near Kanpur

Kanpur: A rare species of white Himalayan vulture has been found again. A white vulture was wandering around the district to find its mate kept by the forest department.

Reportedly it has been caught in the forest of Kayamganj, 150 kms away from here.

Following the catch, the white vulture has been brought to the Kanpur zoo and kept in a cage next to its companion. 

Earlier, a white vulture was also caught in the city. It was exactly found on January 7.

Three hurt as moving car falls from bridge in Kanpur

Kanpur: A moving car fell 40 feet after colliding with the railing after a tire burst on the Govindpuri bridge under the Fazalganj police station area here.

Three people were traveling in the car at the time of the accident. They have suffered minor injuries. Harsh Trivedi, son of Anurag Trivedi, r/o Pandu Nagar at about 2.30 a.m.was leading towards Yashoda Nagar. He was accompanied with his brother Harsh Dwivedi and sister in law Shruti Dwivedi.

India: Man's head smashed, body dumped in Panki area forest

Kanpur:: A man was found dead in a forest in Gangaganj Part-II, in the Panki police station area, the police said.

The man’s head was broken and the body ditched in the forlorn forest, the police said, adding that they sent the body for a post-mortem.

A police team reached the spot after receiving information that a man had been found dead in the forest, with his skull smashed.

According to the police, while the identity of the victim is yet to be ascertained, he is believed to have been 26 years of age.

India: Small white owl spotted in Kanpur's Naveen Market shop

Kanpur: After the recent day grab of the extinct vulture, a small white owl has now been found in Kanpur. It was spotted in the Navin market here.

None knows where it came from. When people saw that a white owl was sitting in the window of the shop, the crowd started gathering to see this unique owl.

Forest officer Lallu Singh says that the owl is considered a protected bird. We will hand it over to the zoo. Where did it come from, at the moment we are trying to find out about it.

Kanpur: The leather traders are in a big worry owing to a feared fall in exports of leather items to foreign countries.

It is mainly due to the reported emergence of Covid's new variant in the USA and China.

It has been reiterated by the traders that they are in anguish fearing a 40% drop in exports of leather products from this city.

The leather traders are noticing challenges in their business, and exports to countries, like China, America, United Arab Emirates, Iran, and Iraq as the trends in exports are decreasing.

New Delhi, Jan 9 (PTI) The Congress on Monday launched a scathing attack on Tamil Nadu Governor R N Ravi for skipping portions of the state government-prepared customary address in the Assembly, alleging that his actions were a "brazen violation" of constitutional norms and he was "acting at the behest of those who appointed him".
