India: Mehbooba doesn't appear before ED in money laundering case

New Delhi, Mar 22 (PTI) PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday did not appear before the Enforcement Directorate at its headquarters here in a money laundering case, citing that she had prior commitments that could not be cancelled.

However, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said she is ready and willing to be questioned in Srinagar, preferably at her residence or through video conference.

India-Pakistan detente continues with water-sharing talks

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - India and Pakistan are to hold the first meeting in three years on Tuesday of a commission on water rights from the Indus River in a further sign of rapprochement in relations frozen since 2019 during disputes over Kashmir.

The Permanent Indus Commission, set up in 1960, will meet for two days in New Delhi, according to two Indian officials involved with water issues and Pakistan’s foreign ministry.

India: Two 'Nihangs' shot dead in encounter with police

Tarn Taran (Punjab), Mar 21 (PTI) Two 'Nihangs', traditional Sikh warriors, were shot dead by police during an encounter after the duo attacked policemen with swords at a village in Punjab's Tarn Taran on Sunday, officials said.

The two 'Nihangs', identified as Mehatab Singh and Gurdev Singh, were wanted in a murder case at Nanded in Maharashtra, they said.

After their mobile location was traced in Sursingh village, the Nanded Police alerted the police in Punjab and a team of two SHOs were sent to nab them.

India: Rebel BJP MLA claims Yediyurappa's exit inevitable

Bengaluru, Mar 21 (PTI) Launching yet another tirade against Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa, rebel BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal on Sunday said change of guard in the state was 'inevitable' after the elections to five states, as the BJP cannot go for next poll under his leadership.

"This Chief Minister will be changed for sure. If the BJP goes for election with him, then defeat is guaranteed," Yatnal, who has been targetting Yediyurappa on a regular basis, told reporters.

India: 43,846 new cases of Covid-19, highest single-day spike this year

New Delhi, Mar 21 (PTI) India saw 43,846 new coronavirus infections in a day, the highest single-day rise recorded so far this year, taking the nationwide COVID-19 tally to 1,15,99,130, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Sunday

Registering an increase for the 11th day in a row, the total active caseload has increased to 3,09,087, which now comprises 2.66 per cent of the total infections, while the recovery rate has further dropped to 95.96 per cent, the data stated.

India’s COVID-19 Tally Rises To 11,599,130 With Nearly 44,000 New Cases

NEW DELHI, Mar 21 (NNN-PTI) – India’s COVID-19 tally rose to 11,599,130 today, with 43,846 new cases registered during the past 24 hours, according to the latest data from the federal health ministry.

The death toll mounted to 159,755, as 197 patients died since yesterday.

Both, the number of new cases and deaths registered during the past 24 hours are record high this year. Earlier, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, expressed concern at the sudden rise in cases, and called for immediate steps to curb a possible second wave of pandemic.

India: 449 infra projects show cost overruns worth Rs 4.25 trillion

New Delhi, Mar 21 (PTI) As many as 449 infrastructure projects, each worth Rs 150 crore or more, have been hit by cost overruns totalling more than Rs 4.29 lakh crore, according to a report.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation monitors infrastructure projects worth Rs 150 crore and above.

Of the 1,736 such projects, 449 reported cost overruns and 547 were delayed.
