India: Omkarananda Swamy passes away after recovering from Covid

Madurai (TN), May 10 (PTI) Omkarananda Mahaswamiji, who founded the Chidbhavananda ashram at Theni in Tamil Nadu, died after a brief illness at a private hospital here on Monday, ashram sources said.

"The pujyasri Omkarananda Mahaswamiji attained mahasamadhi at 5.40 pm in Madurai," a source at the ashram said.

AIADMK Coordinator O Panneerselvam and BJP state chief L Murugan condoled the seer's demise.

The peetadhipathi who was admitted with Covid-19 tested negative recently but had suffered a cardiac arrest two days ago.

India: TV actor Ravi Dubey tests positive for COVID-19

Mumbai, May 11 (PTI) Popular television actor Ravi Dubey said he has tested positive for the novel coronavirus and is under home quarantine.

The 37-year-old actor took to Instagram on Monday night to share his diagnosis.

He urged all those who came in contact with him to closely monitor themselves.

India: First Oxygen Express reaches Karnataka

Bengaluru, May 11 (PTI) The first Oxygen Express to Karnataka, carrying 120 tonnes of liquid medical oxygen reached the city on Tuesday.

According to South Western Railway, the oxygen express carrying six cryogenic containers with medical oxygen weighing 120 tonnes departed from Jharkhand on Monday and arrived at the Inland Container Depot in Whitefield here this morning.

India: Tripura CM orders inquiry into attack on CPI(M) leaders by BJP workers

Agartala, May 11 (PTI) Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday ordered a probe into the attack on Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Manik Sarkar, and other CPI(M) members in South Tripura district a day ago, allegedly by workers and supporters of the ruling BJP.

Deb has given directions for formation of an inquiry committee, headed by South Tripura Superintendent of Police Kulwant Singh, and sought a report on the incident within 48 hours, a statement issued by the chief minister's office said.

India: Writer-actor Madampu Kunjukuttan dies of COVID-19

Thrissur (Ker), May 11 (PTI) Eminent novelist, actor and screenplay writer Madampu Sankaran Namboodiri alias Madampu Kunjukuttan, who had been under treatment for COVID-19, succumbed to the viral infection at a private hospital here on Tuesday.

He was 81.

He was admitted to the hospital following fever and breathing difficulties and tested positive for the virus recently, hospital sources said.

India: HCL to provide 21 oxygen plants to Delhi govt

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) Tech firm Hindustan Computers Ltd (HCL) on Tuesday said it is supporting the Delhi government with 12,000 oxygen cylinders and 21 oxygen plants.

In a statement, HCL said each cylinder has a capacity of 40 litres oxygen whereas 21 oxygen plants will generate 8,800 litres of oxygen per minute.

Two of these ready-to-use oxygen plants which were imported from France have already been delivered and will get installed at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in the national capital, it added.

India: B.Tech student snatches woman's handbag to buy Covid vaccine for mom

New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) A 23-year-old B.Tech student dropped his mother at a hospital for COVID-19 vaccination, came outside and allegedly snatched a woman's bag as he wanted money to buy drugs, police said on Monday after arresting him.

The accused has been identified as Nikhil Kumar Vats, a resident of Mandoli, they said. The incident took place on Saturday.

India: Request for early hearing to PIL against Central Vista construction

New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) A request was made to the Delhi High Court on Monday to give an early hearing to a PIL seeking a stay on the construction of the Central Vista here amid the raging COVID pandemic.

The request was mentioned before a bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice Jasmeet Singh by senior advocate Sidharth Luthra, and the court said an early hearing application be filed first.

India: HC grants 3-week bail to Pinjra Tod activist Natasha Narwal for last rites of father

New Delhi, May 10 (PTI) The Delhi High Court Monday granted bail to JNU student Natasha Narwal, arrested last year in May in connection with the communal riots in north-east Delhi to perform the last rites of her father who succumbed to COVID-19.

A bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and A J Bhambhani granted interim bail to Narwal, a Pinjra Tod activist, for three weeks subject to her furnishing of a personal bond of Rs 50,000.
