India: Rahul Gandhi on two-day visit to Jammu from Sep 9

New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi will be on a two-day visit to Jammu from Thursday, during which he will pay obeisance at the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine in Katra.

Gandhi will leave for Jammu on Thursday and will participate in the evening 'aarti' at the temple. He will stay at the shrine board's guesthouse, sources said.

The former Congress chief will address a workers' convention at Jammu on Friday and will meet separate delegations of local leaders during a luncheon meeting, they said.

India: Violent clashes erupt between BJP and CPI(M) activists in Tripura

Agartala, Sept 8 (PTI) Violent clashes erupted between activists of the ruling BJP and the principal opposition, CPI(M), in different parts of Tripura on Wednesday.

Trouble started at Udaipur town in Gomati district of Tripura after CPI(M)'s youth wing Democratic Youth Federation of India took out a procession and a few activists from the rally allegedly attacked a ruling BJP activist who was passing by, injuring him seriously.

India: CCS clears procurement of 56 transport aircraft for IAF

New Delhi, Sep 8 (PTI) In a major decision, the Cabinet Committee on Security on Wednesday approved the procurement of 56 C-295 medium transport aircraft for the Indian Air Force to replace its ageing Avro planes which were first inducted around 60 years ago.

Sixteen aircraft will be delivered in a flyaway condition by the Airbus Defence and Space of Spain within 48 months of signing the contract while the remaining 40 planes will be manufactured in India, according to the defence ministry.

India: US acting ambassador meets RSS Chief Bhagwat

New Delhi, Sep 9 (PTI) US acting ambassador Atul Keshap met RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Wednesday.

After the meeting, Keshap said he held a "good discussion" with Bhagwat on how "India's tradition of diversity, democracy, inclusivity, and pluralism can ensure the vitality and strength of a truly great nation."

Waze posted a message on the Telegram showing 'Jaish-ul-Hind' taking responsibility for planting the explosives.

It was reportedly said that Kanpur Plastipack Limited has invested a big sum of Rs 200 crore in Kanpur Dehat (Rural), RP Poly Packs Rs 150 crore in Rania and GLKK Industries Rs 25 crore for fabric production respectively.

Lucknow, Sep 7 (PTI) Jailed gangster and former MP Atiq Ahmad and his wife on Tuesday joined AIMIM in presence of its chief Asaduddin Owaisi drawing a sharp reaction from the BJP which said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will not allow "Jinnah's jehadi mentality" to flourish in Uttar Pradesh.

While Atiq's wife Shaista Praveen joined the AIMIM at a press conference here, Atiq Ahmad joined the new party in absentia.
