India: Opposition meeting aimed at saving country, democracy, say leaders

Bengaluru, Jul 18 (PTI) Several opposition leaders hit out at the BJP on Tuesday, saying their meeting here is aimed at saving the country, democracy and the Constitution.

They alleged the country's democracy was being "played with" under the BJP government and there was a need to protect the "idea of India".

Deliberations at the opposition unity meeting underway in Bengaluru aim at giving the grouping of 26 parties a name, structure and common agenda to take on the BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

G20 finance chiefs meeting in India address global challenges like climate change and rising debt

NEW DELHI (AP) — Finance ministers from the Group of 20 nations meeting in India on Monday are poised to address critical global economic challenges, including the threats posed by climate change and rising debt among low-income countries.

The finance minister of India, which is hosting the global grouping, said the G20 will focus on strengthening the global economy as growth remains uneven and below average.

India ties up with UAE to settle trade in rupees

NEW DELHI, July 15 (Reuters) - India has signed an agreement with the United Arab Emirates that will allow it to settle trade in rupees instead of dollars, boosting India's efforts to cut transaction costs by eliminating dollar conversions.

During a visit by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the UAE on Saturday, the two countries also agreed to set up a real-time payment link to facilitate easier cross-border money transfers.

India: LVM3-M4 rocket carrying Chandrayaan-3 (lunar mission) lifts off from Sriharikota

Sriharikota, (AP), Jul 14 (PTI) The Indian Space Research Organisation launched its third lunar mission--Chandrayaan 3 on-board the heavylift LVM3-M4 rocket here on Friday.

At the end of the 25.30 hour countdown, the LVM3-M4 rocket, the largest and heaviest in its class and dubbed as 'Fat Boy' lifted off majestically at a prefixed time at 2.35 pm from the second launch pad, discharging thick plumes of smoke.

Indian PM Leaves For Official Visits To France, UAE

NEW DELHI, Jul 13 (NNN-PTI) – Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, today left for official visits to France and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), announced the Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

During his visit to France, Modi will attend the celebrations of the French National Day, or Bastille Day, in Paris as the Guest of Honour.

An Indian tri-services contingent will be part of the Bastille Day Parade, the country’s Foreign Secretary, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, told the media yesterday.

India: Water level rises, sluice gates at Ganga Barrage open in Kanpur

Kanpur: As many as 77,077 cusecs of water from Narora Dam and 1 lakh 35 thousand cusecs from Haridwar reached here. 

Owing to this release, the water level downstream of Ganga started rising rapidly. Therefore the water level of the Ganga rose by 41 cm.

Whereas a rise of 32 cm has been recorded in Shuklaganj of Unnao.

On the other hand, 45,364 cusecs of water were released from Kanpur to Prayagraj through all the 30  sluice gates of Kanpur Ganga Barrage.

All 30 gates of the Ganga barrage have been opened when the water level upstream crossed 113 metres.
