Indian Rupee slips 14 paise to 75.94 against USD

Mumbai, Mar 3 (PTI) The rupee declined by 14 paise to close at 75.94 against the US dollar on Thursday, pressured by surging crude oil prices amid intensifying conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Persistent foreign capital outflows and subdued domestic equity markets also affected market sentiment, forex dealers said.

India agrees to give more data on western river projects to Pakistan

Islamabad, Mar 3 (PTI) India has agreed to provide additional data on several western hydropower projects to Pakistan during an annual meeting between the officials of the two countries held here under the Permanent Commission on Indus Waters (PCIW), a media report said on Thursday.

The three-day meeting between the two commissioners of PCIW completed discussions on all agenda items on Wednesday. The talks were held in a very cordial environment and the final outcome of crucial parleys is expected to be announced on Thursday.

India: Ukranian soldiers ill-treated us, say evacuated Rajasthan students

Jaipur, Mar 3 (PTI) Indian students who returned here from Ukraine said the situation at the war-hit country's border with Romania was horrific, with Ukranian soldiers thrashing Indians and firing tear gas shells.

The eight students who arrived here after fleeing the war-torn nation amid the intense Russian military offensive also accused the Indian embassy officials in Ukraine of not extending any support.

Varanasi (UP), Mar 3 (PTI) BSP president Mayawati on Thursday said her party will form the government in the state and send Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath back to his mutt , alleging that he worked with a narrow and casteist mindset, and ignored Dalits, backwards and Muslims at every level.

She also slammed a section of the media and accused it of bringing out exit polls in favour of the BJP and other rival parties of the BSP.

India: ED attaches assets of Kochi naval base ex-chief engineer

New Delhi, Mar 3 (PTI) The ED on Thursday provisionally attached assets worth Rs 7.47 crore belonging to a former chief engineer of naval works and others in connection with a money laundering probe linked to alleged receipt of bribes for issuing civil contracts at the navy base in Kochi.

India: Healthcare should be free for all: Satyendar Jain

New Delhi, Mar 3 (PTI) Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Thursday that governments should work to make healthcare free for all and not just a select few.

Addressing the CII Delhi State Annual Session 2021-22, the minister said the Delhi government is working on the "largest healthcare expansion plan of the world" with the construction of 15,000 new beds, which will become functional in the next one and a half years.

He said governments should take care of both the taxpayers and the ones who cannot afford quality healthcare.

Indian student shot at in Kyiv: V K Singh

New Delhi, Mar 4 (PTI) An Indian student has reportedly been shot at and injured in Ukrainian capital Kyiv, Minister of State for Civil Aviation V K Singh said on Friday.

Singh is in Poland currently to facilitate the evacuation of Indians stranded in war-hit Ukraine.

"Today, we heard reports that a student leaving Kyiv was shot at. He was taken back to Kyiv. This will happen in a fighting," the minister told media persons.

India: UP polls - Modi to hold roadshow in Varanasi

Varanasi, Mar 4 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a roadshow in Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency, on Friday in support of BJP candidates ahead of the last phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on March 7.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav is also slated to hold a roadshow in Varanasi in evening.

India: Four local BJP leaders booked for cheating farmer in UP

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Mar 4 (PTI) Four local BJP leaders have been booked for allegedly falsifying documents to get a lease sanctioned from the government for sand mining in Shamli district, police said on Friday.

According to the police, farmer Lilu Singh alleged that the accused got the lease to lift sand from his field in Yusufpur Chotra village under the Jhinjhana police station using fake documents.

India: IIT-K & OFM develop first soft recovery system for swift projectiles

Kanpur: The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and the Ordnance Factory Medak, Telangana, a unit of Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited, developed India's first soft recovery system for supersonic projectiles.

This recovery system can stop a 30mm supersonic projectile moving at Mach 3 - three times the speed of sound - at a distance of nearly 50 meters.

According to a release, the technology has been developed under leadership of Nachiketa Tiwari of IIT-K and Alok Prasad, General Manager of Ordnance Factory MedaK.
