Muzaffarnagar, Oct 14 (PTI) A woman died of burns after being set on fire by her husband in Khatoli town here, police said on Monday.

The victim-- Anuradha and her husband Dinesh Singh had an argument over a family dispute, they said.

Singh, a sugar mill employee, lost his temper and poured kerosene over his wife before setting her on fire, police said, adding that he too sustained burn injuries.

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Oct 14 (PTI) A man was arrested for allegedly strangling a 14-year-old girl to death after she resisted his rape attempt in a village of neighbouring Shamli district, police said on Monday.

The accused was identified as Anuj (26), they said.

Additional Superintendent of Police Rajesh Shrivastava told newsmen here that during interrogation, Anuj confessed to the killing.

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 14 (PTI) Three men were booked and one of them was arrested for allegedly attempting to rape a 22-year-old woman and filming the act in Uttar Pradesh's Shamli district, police said on Monday.

The alleged rape attempt took place on Sunday and one of the accused was arrested the same day, they said.

NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said it would take four months for Jammu and Kashmir to return to normal after his government stripped the state of its special status in August and imposed harsh restrictions.

At a rally in the western state of Maharashtra, Modi said that his government had taken necessary steps to maintain security in Jammu and Kashmir, India’s only Muslim-majority state that is also claimed by neighboring Pakistan.

Srinagar, Oct 12 (PTI) Five people were injured in a grenade attack by suspected militants in a market area in Jammu and Kashmir's summer capital Srinagar on Saturday, police said.

Militants hurled a grenade in Hari Singh High Street market area -- a few hundred metres from the city centre Lal Chowk -- this afternoon, a police official said.

The grenade exploded on a roadside in the market, injuring five people, he said, adding that the wounded were rushed to a hospital here.

Jaipur, Oct 12 (PTI) A 35-year-old woman has alleged she was raped by nine men after serving her a sedative laced drink two years ago in Rajasthan's Churu district, police said on Saturday.

The woman filed a compliant on Friday, following which a case was registered against the accused, Churu Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhvendra Pal Singh said.

He said the accused also filmed a video of the crime.

Medical examination of the victim was done on Saturday and statements will be recorded, the DSP said.

New Delhi, Oct 12 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the much-awaited Kartarpur corridor to Sri Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan on November 8, Union Minister Harsimrat Badal said.

Modi will inaugurate the integrated check post on the Indian side, she said.
