Kashmir: Govt middle school found locked during inspection

Jammu, Oct 23; PTI/GANASHAKTI: Authorities in Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir ordered an inquiry after a government middle school was found locked during an inspection in a remote village, officials said on Wednesday.

District Development Commissioner Angrez Singh Rana ordered withholding the salary of all the seven teachers posted in the school at Bhatan village for their unauthorised absence from duty, the officials said.

India: Two new border markets to come up in Tripura: CM

Agartala, Oct 23 (PTI) Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday said the Centre has approved setting up of two new border 'haats' (markets) along the India-Bangladesh border in the state.

Deb, while speaking at an event, said the border markets will come up at Ragna village in North Tripura district's Dharmanagar and Dhalai district's Kamalpur.

Two border markets are operational at Kamalasagar in Sepahijala district and Srinagar in South Tripura district.

Delhi HC dismisses plea against odd-even vehicle scheme

New Delhi, Oct 23 (PTI) The Delhi High Court Wednesday dismissed a PIL challenging the AAP government's proposed odd-even road rationing scheme which is expected to be in force from November 4-15.

A bench of Chief Justice D N Patel and Justice C Hari Shankar declined to entertain the plea as the petitioner had not made any representation to the government before approaching the court.

The court also said that the petition was filed without the details of the scheme which is yet to be notified by the Delhi government.

India: Telephone tapping allowed only in case of public emergency: HC

Mumbai, Oct 22 (PTI) Telephone tapping is permissible only in situations of public emergency or in the interest of public safety, the Bombay High Court held on Tuesday and quashed orders passed by the Union Home Ministry allowing agencies to intercept phone calls of a businessman booked by the CBI in a bribery case.

A division bench of Justices R V More and N J Jamadar was hearing a petition filed by the businessman, Vinit Kumar, challenging the three orders, passed between October 2009 and February 2010, that allowed tapping of his phone calls.

India: Court dismisses alleged rapist Chinmayanand's plea to book his victim under Gangster Act

Shahjahanpur, Oct 22 (PTI) A local court on Tuesday dismissed a petition from BJP leader Swami Chinmayanand, who is accused of rape by a law student, demanding that the Gangster Act should be slapped on the woman and three others for trying to blackmail him.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Omveer Singh dismissed the petition saying it was not in his jurisdiction.He directed that it should be moved before the relevant court, Chinmayanand's lawyer Pooja Singh told PTI.

Border-related issues to top agenda of Tripura-Bangla meet

Agartala, Oct 22 (PTI) Issues related to border fencing and trans-border crime will feature in a strategic meeting here on Wednesday between officials of Tripura and its neighbouring districts of Bangladesh.

The district magistrates of West, Sepahijala and Khowai would be present in the meeting from the Indian side, while Bangladesh would be represented by DMs/Deputy Commissioners of Brahmanbaria, Comilla and Maulavi Bazar, an official said.

India: Coaching class owner held for molesting student in Maha

Pune, Oct 22 (PTI) A 35-year-old owner of a coaching class has been arrested for allegedly molesting one of his girl students, the police said on Tuesday.

The accused, who runs a coaching centre at Sinhgad Road in Maharashtra's Pune city, allegedly molested a 16- year-old girl student on Monday, an official from the Pune police said.

The victim confided in her parents, who immediately rushed to the centre to confront the accused, the official said, adding that the police was subsequently informed

India: Woman burnt to death by husband in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Oct 23 (PTI) A woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband over a family dispute, following which the man was arrested, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on October 13 in Khatoli district, SHO Santosh Kumar Tyagi said.

Anuradha was rushed to a hospital here, where she succumbed to injuries, police said.

A case was registered against her husband Dinesh in connection with the mater, the SHO said.
