India: Trains cancellation troubles rail passengers in Kanpur

Kanpur: Amid riots starting from Bihar in protest against the Agneepath scheme have reached some districts of Uttar Pradesh.

On the Delhi-Howrah rail route, after protests at several stations in the state, the Railways have cancelled many trains.

The cancellation of trains led passengers facing problems at Kanpur.

Some passengers are reportedly taking tickets for other trains.

While other passengers were reported to travel their respective trips by road.

Angry protests hit India over new short-term military jobs

NEW DELHI (AP) — Violence erupted in parts of India on Thursday with thousands of angry youths setting train coaches and vehicles on fire, blocking highways and attacking police with rocks to protest a new short-term government recruitment policy for the military.

Police used batons and tear gas to disperse the protesters in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan states where they took to the streets and damaged government buildings.

India: Slums catch fire along Barra-8 Highway in Kanpur

Kanpur: The fire broke out this morning in slums spread near the one petrol pump in the Gujaini area along the Barra-8 Highway.

Seeing the eruption of smoke and flames, there was a stampede.

At first, the unit people tried to control the fire from their level, but the fire took an alarming form. Gradually the fire engulfed several huts.

Police and the fire department were informed of this incident.

The fire was brought under control with the help of two fire tenders that reached the spot. 

Thousands protest ‘bulldozer justice’ against Indian Muslims

LUCKNOW, India (AP) — Protests have been erupting in many Indian cities to condemn the demolition of homes and businesses belonging to Muslims, in what critics call a growing pattern of “bulldozer justice” aimed at punishing activists from the minority group.

On Sunday, authorities in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh rode on a bulldozer to raze the home of Javed Ahmad, who they said was connected to Muslim religious protests that turned violent last Friday. Police arrested Ahmad on Saturday.

India: UP to experience rains between June 20 & 25: IMD

Kanpur: According to IMD, the monsoon will knock in Uttar Pradesh between June 20 and 25. It is still more than four days. The weather can be cold only if it begins raining.

India: Groom leaves wedding at denial of dowry in Kanpur

Kanpur: A groom fled away from marriage venue as he was denied dowry, police said.

The incident took place at a mass marriage event in Sharifapur village of the district in the very presence of UP Minister Dharam Pal Singh, as reported.

The groom was one among the 144 couples getting married at Chief Minister's mass marriage programme here on Saturday.

According to the police officials, the groom left the 'mandap' for a minute on the pretext of drinking a glass of water.

But he was reported to have disappeared from the wedding venue.

India: Possibility of change looms large in Kanpur weather

Kanpur: There seems to be cloudy in the evening after 5 p.m. The temperature is above 40° Celsius today.

So far if June last year, there was about 20 mm of rain twice. It had rained on June 10 as well, but this time between June 15 and 17, there is a possibility of a change in the weather.

The maximum temperature on Friday was 44. degrees Celsius. Which was 4.9 degrees Celsius above the set temperature today, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 27 degrees. It is 0.3 degrees below normal.

Suspended India ruling party spokeswoman in more trouble after Prophet Mohammed remarks

NEW DELHI, June 9 (Reuters) - Police in New Delhi said on Thursday they have filed a complaint against a suspended spokeswoman for India's ruling party for "inciting people on divisive lines" on social media, days after her remarks on Prophet Mohammed led to a diplomatic backlash.

Many Muslim-majority countries have condemned India after Nupur Sharma, a spokesperson for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), commented on the prophet's private life during a recent heated TV debate that Muslims found insulting.

India: Kerala sentences husband to 10 yrs in jail for dowry death

Kollam (Ker), May 24 (PTI) A court in Kerala on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years in jail the husband of Vismaya, an Ayurveda medical student who hanged herself at her marital home in June last year, for dowry death.

Additional District and Sessions Judge-1 Sujith K N also sentenced S Kiran Kumar to six years and two years imprisonment for the offences of abetment to suicide and dowry harassment under the IPC, Special Public Prosecutor G Mohanraj told reporters.
