Anti-CAA protests: Curfew imposed in parts of Jabalpur

Jabalpur (MP), Dec 21 (PTI) Curfew was imposed in Gohalpur and Hanumantal police station limits in Jabalpur city of Madhya Pradesh on Friday following violent protests against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Curfew was also imposed in some parts of Kotwali and Adhartal police station limits, District Collector Bharat Yadav told PTI.

All these areas are predominantly Muslim.

Schools would remain closed on Saturday as a precautionary measure, he said.

The situation was now under control, he added.

India: Three Naxal terrorists arrested in C'garh's Dantewada

Dantewada, Dec 20 (PTI) Three Naxals, including two carrying cash rewards on their heads, were arrested during a joint search operation by security forces in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district, police said on Friday.

Hidma Markam alias Savarkar (28), Kamlesh Madkami (26) and Hidma Markam (27) were apprehended from the forest of Madkamiras and Kutrem villages on Thursday, a police official here said.

District Judge Dharmesh Sharma also imposed an exemplary fine of Rs 25 lakh in the case and it has to be paid within a month.

8 die in protests against citizenship law across India

The self-immolation occurred at the India Gate lawns where protesters have been demanding the rescinding of the Citizenship Amendment Act

Police, however, said that the act by the youth, identified as Kartik Maher from Odisha, was not connected to the protests

India: Man held for raping minor girl

Hyderabad, Dec 18 (PTI): A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a man in Jogulamba Gadwal district of Telangana after which he was arrested along with his friend who too had tried to sexually assault her, police said on Wednesday.

The 22-year-old man called the girl to his house on some pretext on Tuesday and raped her. Later, he called his friend who also tried to rape her, but her father after hearing her cries reached the spot and the duo fled, a police official said.
