India, US hold first edition of 2+2 talks, discuss range of issues

New Delhi, Sep 6 (PTI) India and the US Thursday held the first edition of the two-plus-two talks, aimed at further strengthening bilateral defence and security collaboration as well as boosting their global strategic partnership, particularly in the Indo-Pacific region.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman held talks with US Secretary of State Michael R Pompeo and Defence Secretary James Mattis.

SC to hear next week plea to stay Rafale deal

New Delhi, Sep 5 (PTI) The Supreme Court Wednesday agreed to hear next week a PIL seeking stay on the Rafale fighter jet deal between India with France.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud considered the submissions of advocate M L Sharma that his plea be listed for urgent hearing.

In his PIL, Sharma alleged discrepancies in the fighter jet deal with France and sought stay on it.

India's CJI Misra recommends Justice Gogoi as next chief justice

New Delhi, Sep 4 (PTI) Chief Justice of India (CJI) Dipak Misra Tuesday sent a letter to the Central government recommending Justice Ranjan Gogoi as his successor.

Justice Gogoi will be sworn in as the next CJI on October 3.

The CJI has written to the Ministry of Law and Justice endorsing and recommending the name of Justice Gogoi, senior-most judge, as the next CJI.

CPI(M) accuses RSS, BJP of attacking Dalits, creating Urban Naxal theories to hide Dalit anger

New Delhi, Sep 2; GANASHAKTI :  Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the RSS of increasing violence against Scheduled Caste persons, the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Sunday said their 'main agenda is to implement Manuwadi rule'.

"The main agenda of the BJP and RSS is to implement Manuwadi rule where Dalits are treated as sub-humans", the CPI(M) said in a tweet.

Letter 'concocted' to criminalise me, rights activist: Sudha Bharadwaj

New Delhi, Sep 1; GANASHAKTI: Sudha Bharadwaj, one of the five activists arrested in multi-city raids by the Maharashtra Police, has outrightly rejected the claims made by the investigating agency and said a purported letter implicating her was "totally concocted" to criminalise her and human rights organisations.

The police had Friday claimed that Bharadwaj had written to one "Com. Prakash".

Members of India’s first space crew may be trained in Russia

NEW DELHI, August 30. /TASS/. The members of the first Indian space crew may undergo training in a foreign state, Russia being one of the options, Kailasavadivoo Sivan, head of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), told journalists.

ISRO will need to take the help of a foreign country for advanced training of the crew, he said. "We have not decided which country we will choose for training. Russia, Germany and USA have the facilities," Sivan said, according to the PTI news agency.
