France: Commission approves bill targeting Muslims

25 Jan 2021; MEMO: A special commission in the French National Assembly approved the "charter of republican values" which was announced earlier by the nation's president as the fight against Islamist separatism, Anadolu reports.

The bill was introduced Oct. 2 by Emmanuel Macron to fight so-called "Islamist separatism."

India: Thousands of farmers reach Mumbai for Jan 25 rally

Mumbai, Jan 24 (PTI) Thousands of farmers from across Maharashtra reached Mumbai on Sunday evening to participate in a rally at the state capital on Monday against the Centre's three new farm laws.

Police have stepped up security at Azad Maidan, the rally's venue in south Mumbai, and personnel of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) have also been deployed there.

Drones will also be used to keep an eye on the event, a police official said.

India: MP government trying to crush farmers' voice: Kamal Nath

Indore, Jan 24 (PTI) Madhya Pradesh Congress president Kamal Nath on Sunday hit out at the BJP dispensation in the state for using force on his party workers during a protest in Bhopal against the Centre's three new farm laws, and alleged that the government was trying to crush the voice of farmers.

He also claimed that the new laws will privatise the agriculture sector and farmers will become bonded labourers of big industrialists.

Nath led a farmers' tractor rally in Depalpur, about 50 kms from Indore, to protest against the new agri laws.

India: Repeal farm laws immediately: Left parties

New Delhi, Jan 24(PTI) Left parties on Sunday reiterated their support for the farmer groups protesting against the Centre's new agri laws and demanded that the government immediately repeal the legislations.

In a joint statement, the CPI(M), CPI(ML), CPI, Revolutionary Socialist Party and the All India Forward Bloc also said that they hail the unity and determination displayed by farmers.

Ronaldo turns down multi-million Saudi advertising deal

India: Those supporting farmer protests being vilified: Sukhbir

Chandigarh, Jan 22 (PTI) Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday condemned the registration of a case against party leader and Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee president Manjinder Singh Sirsa.

Sirsa was booked by the Delhi Police on Thursday for alleged misappropriation of funds during his tenure as the secretary general of the DSGMC.

India: Farmers to hold protest rally over farm laws in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 23 (PTI) A large numbers of farmers left for Mumbai from Maharashtra's Nashik district on Saturday for a rally to demand repealing of the Centre's three new farm laws.

The rally organised by Akhil Bharatiya Kisan Sabha will be held in Mumbai on January 25, a statement issued by the organisation said.
