Israel police arrest 55 anti-Netanyahu protesters

25 July 2020; MEMO: Israeli occupation police arrested on Friday at dawn 55 Israelis who took part in demonstrations against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, news agencies reported.

According to Israel Radio, thousands of angry Israelis took part in demonstrations staged near Netanyahu’s residence in Jerusalem, and many clashes erupted between them and police.

New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) Shakeel Khan came from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, around two weeks ago to sell his employer's goats at Delhi's famous caprine market near Jama Masjid. A week away from Eid al-Adha or Bakri Eid, he has not been able to find any buyers.

With a little money left on him, the 22-year-old spends his nights outside closed shops on Urdu Bazar Road near the famous mosque.

Biryani tops India's food chart during lockdown: Report

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) The COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdown saw many people turning chefs overnight, but those who could not turned to online delivery of food. And not just any food, as per a new report, Indians "craved the most for Biryani" during the lockdown.

The "StatEATistics report: The Quarantine Edition" from food delivery platform Swiggy found that Indians ordered biryani over "5.5 lakh times" from their favourite restaurants.

Indonesian Defence Minister to pay three-day India visit

New Delhi, Jul 24 (PTI) Indonesian Defence Minister Gen Prabowo Subianto will pay a three-day visit to India beginning Sunday, during which he will hold talks with the leadership here to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation.

Gen Prabowo will be visiting India from July 26 to 28 and will lay a wreath at the National War Memorial on Monday, the Army said.

He will be also presented with a Guard of Honour at South Block Lawns on Monday, it said.

India to handover 10 broad-gauge locos to B'desh

New Delhi, Jul 25 (PTI) India will handover 10 broad-gauge diesel locomotives to Bangladesh on Monday, providing the neighbouring country mobility solutions for both intra-country and inter-country movement, the Railways said.

Senior dignitaries from both the countries are expected to flag off the handover, which will be conducted via video conferencing, according to the statement.

India: Kashmir saffron gets GI certification

Jammu, July 25 (PTI) Saffron grown in Kashmir has received the geographical indication (GI) tag, with Lieutenant Governor G C Murmu saying that it is a major historic step in bringing the valley's brand on the global map.

The Union government issued a certificate of GI registration for the saffron grown in the Kashmir Valley, an official spokesperson said.

Over 150 U.S. experts urge decision makers to shut down country before starting over

WASHINGTON, July 24 (Xinhua) -- More than 150 prominent U.S. medical experts and health professionals have signed an open letter, urging decision makers to shut down the country and start over to contain the surging COVID-19 pandemic.

"Of all the nations in the world, we've had the most deaths from COVID-19. At the same time, we're in the midst of 'reopening our economy,' exposing more and more people to coronavirus and watching numbers of cases -- and deaths -- skyrocket," they said in the letter addressed to the Trump administration, members of Congress and state governors.

France calls for sanctions on Turkey over Eastern Mediterranean drilling

24 July 2020; MEMO: French President Emmanuel Macron yesterday called for sanctions to be placed on Turkey as a result of what he said were its violations of Greece and Cyprus’ maritime sovereignty in the Eastern Mediterranean.

“It is not acceptable for the maritime space of a Union member state to be violated or threatened. Those responsible must be sanctioned,” Macron said ahead of a meeting held in Paris with his Cypriot counterpart Nicos Anastasiades.
