Uzbek President Notes Huge Potential In Expanding Economic Ties Between ECO Countries

TASHKENT, Nov 10 (NNN-UzA) – The 16th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), was held in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, yesterday, during which, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted, the great potential in expanding economic ties between ECO countries.

According to the press service of the president, the purpose of this summit is to discuss the prospects for multifaceted cooperation within the ECO and bring it to a new level.

Pakistan, Uzbekistan resolve for early finalisation of Strategic Partnership Agreement

TASHKENT, Nov 08 (APP): Pakistan and Uzbekistan on Wednesday reiterated the resolve to finalize the Strategic Partnership Agreement at the earliest to promote regional economic integration.

The bilateral ties were discussed in a bilateral meeting between Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar and President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, on the sidelines of the 16th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) being held here.

Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to play an active role for the regional connectivity.

Powerful blast in Uzbek capital kills one, injures 162

TASHKENT, Sept 28 (Reuters) - One person was killed and 162 injured by a powerful explosion on Thursday at a warehouse near Tashkent's airport that sparked a fire and shattered windows in apartment blocks nearby, authorities in Uzbekistan said.

A teenage boy died after a window frame fell on him, the health ministry said in a statement, adding that 24 people had been hospitalised, but faced no threat to their lives, while 138 were treated for injuries.

Flights were operating as normal at the international airport in the capital, its administration said.

Uzbekistan votes on changes that extend president’s tenure

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (AP) — Voters in Uzebekistan, the most populous former Soviet Central Asian republic, cast ballots Sunday in a referendum on a revised constitution that promises human rights reforms but that also would allow the country’s president to stay in office until 2040.

Approval appears certain. Backers have conducted an array of promotional events featuring local celebrities, and elections in Uzbekistan are widely regarded as noncompetitive.

International Commercial Court To Be Set Up In Uzbekistan

TASHKENT (UZBEKISTAN), April 28 (NNN-Bernama) — Uzbekistan is actively continuing its reforms to ensure investors’ rights are protected, said President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in his address at the Second Tashkent International Investment Forum 2023 (TIIF-2023) on Thursday.

“We will continue our reforms in protecting the rights of entrepreneurs. In particular, the International Commercial Court will start its activities for the first time in our history. It has become possible thanks to the support of international experts”, the president further said.

Uzbek President Met With Chinese FM

TASHKENT, Apr 13 (NNN-UzA) – Uzbek President, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, met with visiting Chinese State Councillor and Foreign Minister, Qin Gang, here yesterday, saying that, he is looking forward to visiting China.

Four Died From Burn Injuries After Gas Explosion In Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, Mar 29 (NNN-UzA) – Four family members have died from burn injuries, after a gas explosion in the Samarkand region of Uzbekistan, local authorities said yesterday.

The explosion occurred due to improper use of heating furnace, on Mar 17, inflicting burn injuries to an old couple and their two grandchildren, in the Kattakurgan district of Samarkand, the district prosecutor office said.

Despite intensive care in hospital, all four patients died in the past two days.

An investigation is being carried out, said the office.

Uzbekistan: Blinken wraps up Central Asia tour before G20 talks in India

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken is wrapping up a brief tour of Central Asia in Uzbekistan before heading to India for what is expected to be a contentious Ukraine-dominated meeting of foreign ministers from the Group of 20.

Blinken met Wednesday in Tashkent with senior Uzbek officials a day after warning his counterparts from all five Central Asian nations about the dangers posed by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover reaches 50 bln USD in 2022

TASHKENT, Feb. 8 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan's foreign trade turnover increased 18.6 percent year-on-year to 50 billion U.S. dollars in 2022, the country's Statistics Agency said Wednesday.

Uzbek exports amounted to 19.3 billion dollars and imports to 30.7 billion dollars in 2022, data showed.

In 2021, the country's foreign trade turnover stood at 42.2 billion dollars, according to the agency.
