TASHKENT, Nov 10 (NNN-UzA) – The 16th Summit of the Economic Cooperation Organisation (ECO), was held in the Uzbek capital, Tashkent, yesterday, during which, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev noted, the great potential in expanding economic ties between ECO countries.
According to the press service of the president, the purpose of this summit is to discuss the prospects for multifaceted cooperation within the ECO and bring it to a new level.
Mirziyoyev said in his speech that, the ECO has great potential in expanding ties in trade, economic and industrial fields, and also in investment, innovation and transport.
During the summit, the Uzbek president proposed working out a new concept document, “Strategic goals of economic cooperation – 2035,” with which the ECO members will make joint efforts, in such areas as trade, transport and communication, industrial cooperation, energy security, combating climate change, and deepening cooperation in tourism and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
He also noted the importance of tapping the potential of transcontinental transport corridors, including launching the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway.
The ECO, which groups Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Türkiye, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, aims to improve development and promote trade in the region.
