India: Farmers stage sit-ins, block roads at some places in UP

Lucknow/Baghpat, Nov 27 (PTI) Farmers on Friday staged demonstrations at some places in Uttar Pradesh leading to traffic jams on roads, officials said.

Protesting against the Centre's new farm laws and the police action on the agitating farmers, the activists of Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) blocked the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway at Nawla Kothi in Muzaffarnagar district and also staged sit-ins in Meerut and Baghpat.

India: 8-yr-old raped, killed in UP's Vrindavan

Mathura (UP), Nov 27 (PTI) An eight-year-old girl was raped and killed on the outskirts of Vrindavan in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, police said on Friday.

The girl had gone missing a day before and her body was found near a multi-level parking in Chhatikara on Friday morning, they said.

She had gone along with a woman to collect firewood from a forested area on Thursday and had been missing since then, police said.

India: Prohibitory orders in Lucknow extended till Dec 1

Lucknow, Nov 25 (PTI) The Lucknow Police Commissionerate on Wednesday said that prohibitory orders in the state capital will now be extended till December 1 in view of upcoming festivals during the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a statement issued here, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Lucknow Naveen Arora said that section 144 of the CrPC was imposed in the city on October 15 and it was in place till November 25.

India: French Ambassador meets UP CM in Lucknow

Lucknow, Nov 25 (PTI) Ambassador of France to India Emmanuel Lenain on Wednesday called upon Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath at his official residence here and had a courtesy meeting, the state government said in a statement issued here.

The ambassador said France wants to increase cooperation with India, especially with Uttar Pradesh.

Adityanath, while inviting France to invest in Uttar Pradesh, said the scope of investment in the state is "immense".

India: 'Ram Janmbhoomi' temple trust chief put on oxygen support: hospital

Lucknow, Nov 23 (PTI) Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra trust president Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, who is admitted to a hospital here, was put on oxygen support on Monday as he complained of difficulty in breathing, according to a health bulletin.

Das was admitted to the Medanta Hospital on November 9 for thromboembolism. The seer was taken to a hospital in Ayodhya after he complained of breathlessness, but doctors had referred him to the Lucknow hospital as his condition was "serious".

India: 21-yr-old woman gangraped in UP's Shamli

Muzaffarnagar (UP), Nov 23 (PTI) A 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped and beaten up by three men in a sugarcane field in Shamli district, police said on Monday.

The woman was raped when she had gone to throw the cow dung on Sunday, according to a complaint lodged by her mother.

When the woman tried to resist their attempts to rape her, she was beaten up by the three men, the complainant said.

The accused threatened her with dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident, SHO of Jhinjhana police station Sarvesh Singh said.

India: Man gets 10-year jail for rape in UP

Banda (UP), Nov 22 (PTI) A court here sentenced a man to 10-year imprisonment in a rape case and also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on him.

Special Public Prosecutor Ramsuphal Singh said Special Judge Mohammad Rizwan Ahmad gave the judgment on Saturday.

The 15-year-old girl was raped on November 1, 2016 by Chandan Rajput (26), the son of her landlord, Singh said, adding that she lived with her mother at the rented accommodation.

On the day of the incident, Chandan called the girl to get 'gutkha' and raped her, he said.

India: UP woman kidnapped, raped by two men

Barabanki (UP) Nov 23 (PTI) An 18-year-old woman was allegedly kidnapped and raped by two men in a village here, police said on Monday.

The two men kidnapped the woman from her house on Saturday evening and took her to a nearby agricultural field, where they raped her, SP Arvind Chaturvedi said.

The woman's younger brother and father were present in the house at the time of the incident but could not make out what was happening.

Kanpur: The cases are rising so the checking is also on the increase. The fear of Covid-19 still hovers upon us.

Masks are importantly needed in such a harsh situation. There is no respite from it. On receiving a call on the mobile set one middle-aged person started covering his mouth and nose with a mask.

He also added that checking in residential areas has also started. So it is better to use one cover to escape from both the disease and the penalty.
