India: Anti-CAB bandh: Agitators set market on fire in Tripura

Agartala, Dec 10 (PTI) Agitators participating in a bandh called by NESO against the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha set a market, where shops were owned mostly by non-tribals, on fire in Tripura's Dhalai district on Tuesday, police said.

However, no one was injured in the incident and the blaze at Manughat market was doused, a senior police officer said.

India: 17-yr-old burnt to death over dowry demand

Agartala, Dec 8 (PTI) A 17-year old girl was allegedly set on fire and killed by her fiance and his mother in South Tripura district, after her parents failed to cough up a dowry of Rs 50,000, a police officer said on Sunday.

The teenager, who suffered 90 per cent burns, was early on Saturday admitted to GP Pant Hospital here, where she succumbed to her injuries, he said.

India: Animal sacrifice resumes in Tripura temple after 57 days

Agartala, Nov 25 (PTI) After 57 days, animal sacrifice resumed in the Tripureswari temple in Tripura following an interim order of the Supreme Court, a temple official said on Mondauy.

The Tripureswari Temple located at Udaypur in Gomati district is over 500 years old and one of the 51 shakti- peethas in the country.

India: Two CRPF personnel injured in bomb attack in Manipur

Imphal, November 22 (PTI) Two CRPF personnel on patrolling duty were injured in a bomb explosion by unidentified persons in Manipur's Imphal West District on Friday, a senior police official said.

The bomb explosion took place at Thangmeiban Lilasing Khongnangkhong on Friday at around 5.20 pm, the official said.

India: Two new border markets to come up in Tripura: CM

Agartala, Oct 23 (PTI) Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Wednesday said the Centre has approved setting up of two new border 'haats' (markets) along the India-Bangladesh border in the state.

Deb, while speaking at an event, said the border markets will come up at Ragna village in North Tripura district's Dharmanagar and Dhalai district's Kamalpur.

Two border markets are operational at Kamalasagar in Sepahijala district and Srinagar in South Tripura district.

Border-related issues to top agenda of Tripura-Bangla meet

Agartala, Oct 22 (PTI) Issues related to border fencing and trans-border crime will feature in a strategic meeting here on Wednesday between officials of Tripura and its neighbouring districts of Bangladesh.

The district magistrates of West, Sepahijala and Khowai would be present in the meeting from the Indian side, while Bangladesh would be represented by DMs/Deputy Commissioners of Brahmanbaria, Comilla and Maulavi Bazar, an official said.

India: Manipur CM convenes for all-party meeting on Naga issue

Imphal, Oct 21 (PTI) Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh has called for an all-party meeting on Tuesday to discuss the Naga peace talk and its impact on Manipur, officials said on Monday.

The meeting was called three days after the Interlocutor for the Naga talks and Nagaland Governor R N Ravi said that the Central government is determined to conclude the decades-long peace process without delay.

India: HC bans animal sacrifice in all Tripura temples

Agartala, Sep 27 (PTI) The Tripura High Court on Friday banned sacrifice of animals or birds for religious reasons in all temples of the state.

A division bench of Chief Justice Sanjoy Karol and Justice Arindam Lodh pronounced the order after hearing a public interest litigation.

"No person including the State shall be allowed to sacrifice any animal/bird within the precincts of any of the temples within the State of Tripura," the order said.

India: Woman gangraped in moving vehicle, thrown out

Agartala, Sep 26 (PTI) A woman was gangraped in a moving vehicle here while returning home after visiting her ailing six-year-old daughter in Agartala Medical College and was thrown out on a road in the town at around midnight by her tormentors before fleeing, a police official said on Thursday.

The gruesome incident took place on Tuesday and the 32-year-old woman was thrown out of the vehicle near the circuit house here and admitted to G B Hospital later by the people who found her lying on the road.

India: Tripura CM asks misguided youth to join mainstream

Agartala, Aug 13 (PTI) Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Tuesday called upon tribal youth, who were still pursuing the wrong path, to join the mainstream for the speedy development of the state.

The chief minister was speaking after welcoming 88 militants of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), who surrendered arms, in Dhalai district's Ambassa.
